I hustled for 4 years until I signed my first podcast sponsor—Shopify. I worked my butt off for 5 years until I saw any sort of financial reward from my podcast company, The Peers Project. How long did it take for you to get your first sponsor? Forever. It took about four years. It was really tough. I was walking into meetings with people who were 30 years older than me, trying to pitch them this new medium that no one even knows what the hell it is and go, hey, you gotta do it because it's the future. So Shopify, that deal was absolutely momentous. I just kept persisting. I had pitched it so many times and it was just like, no, no. I had connected with the head of marketing with APAC, Shopify on LinkedIn. I remember sending him off a damage like August of 2020. I didn't get a meeting with him until February of 2021. Every two months I check in. Hey, I know you haven't responded to my last five emails, but he said he was interested. I'm gonna keep asking until you say no to me. We finally had the meeting. I pitched him the podcast, and he was like, look, I'm actually really, really hating this, but let me get back to you. And I was like, ohh, goodness, here we go again. It's gonna be another 10 months. But I remember I was sitting at a dinner in Richmond with a girlfriend, and I got the e-mail that said, yes, we're so excited to partner with you. And I just remember in that moment I was shook and it was a dream.
