When you don't have a career plan, you will fall for anything and this will have a negative effect on your career progression. Recently, I gave a legal advice to the CEO of a company and I said, if you succumb to the offer to sell the company intellectual property, you've sold what is supposed to be a lifetime investment. The truth is, it's not all career plans that get materialised easily but with patience and time, they will be achieved. So, don't give up on your career plans, keep working on them. One day, you will see that you are living in the reality of your career dreams. #WCW #legaladvice #lawyer

As a recent law graduate stepping into the competitive job market, I understand how challenging it can be to secure a role in the legal field right out of university. The pressure to land your "dream job" can be overwhelming, and it's easy to feel disheartened when reality doesn’t align with your expectations.👀 But here's the truth: not securing a job immediately after graduation isn't a failure, and it certainly doesn't mean your life is on hold. Your journey doesn’t pause just because your career hasn't started yet. Take this time to enjoy the things you love, invest in your passions, and nurture your relationships. Spend time with friends, explore new hobbies or skills, and treat yourself to experiences you’ve always wanted. 🤸🏽♀️ Remember, the right opportunity will come. Trust the process, keep moving forward, and know that your dream job is out there waiting for you. You’ve got this!🫰🏽 #lawgraduate #lawtalks #lawcareer #lawschool #jobhunting

When making a career choice, there are a million factors to consider one which include; 1. The knowledge you will acquire 2. The problems you will avoid as a result of the knowledge you acquired 3. The problems you will solve as a result of the knowledge you acquired It is disheartening to see people make a career choice because of the pay or title. I sometimes imagine the number of doctors we would have in the society if they were paid peanuts. Personally, if I wasn’t an Engineer, I would have been a Lawyer because I hate to see people mistreated or oppressed. I love justice so much and by default I like to defend people. I know the knowledge I would acquire from Law school would help me to defend the defenseless and incorporate laws that would prevent people from hurting each other. I would focus on creating very stern consequences so that people can put their behaviors in check and allow the society habitable for others. I wouldn’t even care so much about the pay. But my love for physics brought me into the engineering field. I already have a career choice. I AM TAKEN! ❤️

"Frustration is a natural part of any journey, but it’s also a sign that you care deeply about where you’re headed." As a recent law graduate navigating the competitive job market, I’ve encountered my share of challenges. However, these experiences have taught me to view each obstacle as an opportunity to grow. Every rejection sharpens my resolve, every pause encourages reflection, and every "no" brings me one step closer to a "yes." I’ve been using this time to not only deepen my legal knowledge but also expand my skills using virtual work experiences. It’s also been a chance to connect with inspiring professionals in the legal field and beyond, who remind me of the importance of persistence and innovation in building a career. To all my fellow job seekers: stay hopeful, stay engaged, and keep learning. If anyone is open to connecting or discussing new opportunities in the legal field or otherwise, I’d love to hear from you! Let’s keep supporting one another on this journey. 🌟 #JobHunt #LegalProfession #NeverGiveUp #GrowthMindset #Networking

What does legal career success look like? 💰Is it the amount of your paycheck? 🥇Maybe it’s the awards and accolades you’ve received? 🏆Or is it the title you’ve proudly displayed on LinkedIn? I’m sensing a pattern here… From the first day of law school, we lawyers are trained to find success in our achievements. After all, getting into law school is no small feat. And our family and friends are SO proud of our accomplishments. So we keep chasing down those atta’ girls! Because collecting those career achievements must be the foundation for career happiness and fulfillment. But what if we’ve been approaching career success all wrong? What if career success is less about salary targets and workplace accomplishments, And more about finding work that aligns with your personal values? Tell me, what’s your definition of career success? Has it changed over the years? #careerchange #careerpivot #success #successmindset #unretiredattorney #womeninlaw

As a lawyer, you're most marketable when you are 3-5 years post call. At this stage, you have a solid foundational skill set and enough of a runway before you are partner eligible to build strong relationships and demonstrate your work ethic. As you start to get more senior – and especially once you make partner – the opportunities to lateral start to narrow. They also start to come with expectations around having a portable book. This is why it's important to reflect on what your path forward looks like and whether you're in the best spot to build the practice you want. Even if you're content with where you are, you want to understand your options so that you can make an informed decision about your career.
