The Department of Defense has issued a class deviation to provide contractors time to comply with NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2. This change aims to enhance the protection of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) in nonfederal systems. The deviation ensures a smoother implementation and alignment of necessary supporting mechanisms. Contractors subject to DFARS clause 252.204-7012 must now adhere to the updated NIST standards, which focus on safeguarding covered defense information and improving cyber incident reporting processes.
