With new #AI regulations and ethical priorities proliferating at record speed, the Colorado AI Act (#CAIA) might have slipped under your radar—but it shouldn’t. Here’s everything you need to know about the most stringent US-based AI regulation on the books right now: ✅ Enterprise is everything. Consumer use is largely exempt from CAIA, which focuses instead on enterprise users with more than 50 employees. SMBs can relax—for now. ✅ Regulations chase risk, and risk follows reward. The more valuable the AI use case, the more risk it entails, and the more strictly it’s regulated by acts like CAIA. In particular, CAIA is designed to prohibit discriminatory use of AI, in areas like hiring or promotions. ✅ AI governance means data governance. CAIA hones in on a critical area of AI governance: data quality and tamper-proofing. It requires developers to offer multiparty access to training data, and to demonstrate data quality and strict data governance standards to any users of their AI systems. Recognizing that bad data can create bad AI, CAIA sets a precedent of transparency and traceability. ✅ 2023 was the year of #GenAI, but 2024 is the year of #AIgovernance — and as CAIA shows, AI trust must become a core standard to which emerging AI tools are held. Just as leading modern companies now operate with security by design, this regulation sets a new bar for organizations to create trust by design. It’s time for businesses everywhere to rise to the challenge: CAIA is only a harbinger of the future of the regulatory landscape. This month, Singapore introduced an AI governance framework focused on genAI that specifically calls out the importance of international collaboration: “The borderless nature of tech also means this must be a shared endeavor,” Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat said at a recent event launching the framework.
