Last week I completed a six-day Mountain Leader Training course at Plas y Brenin. The course focused on developing the skills needed to confidently and safely lead groups across mountainous terrain. It covered everything from map and compass navigation, to group management techniques. The final two days of the course involved a nights wild camp. Needless to say it rained non-stop for the duration of the expedition! Looking forward to putting these skills into practice over the coming months ⛰️🏕️

The ABCs of Water Rescue Command: https://ow.ly/wJ0I50TM8QA LEADERSHIP and command presence are as vital to a water rescue outcome as the rescue selection, tactics, and execution. As rescuers, we talk about the importance of training the hands-on skills we need to ensure a safe and successful rescue. We focus our training on various skills and skill sets that we use during our rescues. However, during training we often overlook leadership skills at rescue scenes. These skills are as important as, if not more important than, the rescue itself.

⚠️ Routine Isn't Risk-Free – Lessons from the Titanic Here's a hard truth: familiarity can be dangerous. Just because something feels routine doesn't mean it's risk-free. Remember the Titanic? It was labelled "unsinkable," but assumptions and overconfidence led to tragedy. Behaviour-based safety (BBS) encourages vigilance even in the mundane. At Sylvangel Maritime Resources, our crew learns to challenge assumptions and trust their instincts. Sometimes, that "Hmm, something feels off" moment prevents disaster. Want to know how Sylvangel builds a safety culture where every detail is noticed? 🚢 ➡️ Check out the article here.https://https://lnkd.in/d5WaDagv #SafetyFirst #MaritimeOperations #BBS #RiskManagement #AccidentPrevention #Leadership

🚢✨ Should a subpar deckhand be granted a steersman license simply by paying for it? In an era where safety is paramount, we must ask: are we compromising our standards? When we allow individuals with inadequate skills to advance through financial means, we risk not only the safety of our crew but also the integrity of our industry. Let's prioritize training and competency over convenience. Invest in skill, not just a license! 🛠️ #MaritimeSafety #Leadership #TrainingMatters #SteersmanLicense #SafetyFirst
