🚨 **Advocacy in Action on Capitol Hill** 🚨 This past week, our team had a productive week on Capitol Hill advocating for critical reforms in autonomous vehicle regulations. As we continue to witness both the potential and pitfalls of autonomous vehicle technology, the importance of robust and adaptive regulatory frameworks cannot be overstated. During our meetings with legislators, we highlighted several key points: - The need for stringent safety standards. - The importance of real-time data sharing between autonomous vehicle companies and regulatory bodies. - Enhanced oversight to ensure public safety and trust in these technologies. The video below, showing an autonomous vehicle driving the wrong way on a road, underscores the urgency of our advocacy efforts. While technological advancements hold promise for the future, they also present new challenges that must be addressed to safeguard our communities. We remain committed to pushing for policies that not only foster innovation but also prioritize the safety and well-being of the public. #AutonomousVehicles #SafetyFirst #Regulation #Advocacy #CapitolHill #PublicSafety #motorcycleadvocacy

A strong partnership between industry, law enforcement, and first responders is essential for the safe and successful deployment of autonomous vehicles. Today we're announcing our Law Enforcement & First Responder Engagement Council, a new initiative to discuss best practices, share information, and address challenges. “Public trust in AVs is essential to their acceptance. The Law Enforcement and First Responder Engagement Council will provide a valuable forum for sharing knowledge, addressing concerns, and building trust," said Jeff Farrah, CEO for the Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association. Members include law enforcement officials, first responders & AV industry reps. The industry pledged to create the Council when announcing the AVIA #TRUSTPrinciples earlier this year. The AV industry is deeply engaged with law enforcement & first responders to explain the technology and answer questions. AV companies carefully consider how vehicles interact safely with first responders and set up training sessions for hands-on experience with the technology. https://lnkd.in/ekC7nuZJ

Los Angeles/ June 11, 2024/ CBS/ Amy Maetzold -- The Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to bolster their ability to regulate #driverless vehicles as concerns rise. Council members approved recommendations to monitor and address issues with autonomous vehicles in the city. The council also backed three bills in the state Legislature aimed at providing municipalities more power to regulate #AVs, and to gain access to #testing data. The city's chief legislative analyst made the recommendations after the City Council adopted a motion introduced by council members Traci Park and Bob Blumenfield in November 2023. The motion called for gathering more information around local, state and federal laws that govern the use of AVs; options for the city to gain access to testing data; and opportunities to support legislation that would empower Los Angeles elected officials in regulating AVs within city limits. In March, the California Public Utilities Commission authorized AV company Waymo to expand its operations in the Los Angeles area. The company then launched Waymo One, a driverless ride-hailing service in a 63-square mile area stretching from Santa Monica and Venice to downtown Los Angeles. Image Source | (©liuen123 | pixabay)
