What do you do when you have some puzzles in business to unlock, celebrations to high five, and upcoming year to plan? You gather your team together and talk about it. Sounds simple, but man if felt good to take 3 days offsite to lift our heads up from our work and be grateful for what we accomplished. Grateful to our customers, our people, and God for his provision. It felt good to talk about our real issues together. It’s amazing how a clear look in the mirror results in solutions rising to the surface on how to overcome those obstacles. And it felt good to plan; how will boats in our general market going to rise or fall? What is my region’s share of this? How should we normalize highs or lows from the year before? And how can we beat all of this through creative/smart planning and hard work? What do some of our closest suppliers have to add to this? Gaf, Hardie, Pella, Mulehide, and ABC thank you all for contributing to a this. A resounding response from our team and partners was this was our best summit yet. If that is any predictor of how next year will go, I can’t wait to see. Let’s go!!!!

This initiative is a significant step forward in addressing the cultural challenges that affect the construction industry, such as excessive work hours and a lack of diversity. Creating a more equitable and inclusive environment is vital for attracting and retaining talent, especially women in leadership and operational roles. Reflecting on an incredible year at Gilmore Construction Corporation, working on various projects at Denver International Airport - City & County of Denver Dept of Aviation, I’ve learnt some invaluable insights: 1. High Stakes, High Rewards: When many stakeholders are involved, the stakes are inevitably high. Effective communication and coordination are crucial. 2. The Power of Documentation: Keeping meticulous track of every document is essential. Information is invaluable, and ensuring it reaches the right person can make all the difference. 3. Mastering the Closeout: Completing construction and closing out a project are distinct stages. Understanding and delivering on closeout requirements on time is vital for project success. 4. Right People, Right Places: Having the right person in the right role is a cornerstone of project success. You can't do it all, and having a capable team is indispensable. 5. Team Spirit Matters: Look out for your team. A small act of belief and regular check-ins can significantly boost morale and productivity. 6. Seek Help, Stay Focused: Don’t hesitate to seek help when needed. Things can get overwhelming, so ensure you communicate effectively to maintain focus and progress toward your goals. Grateful to be working alongside some of the best teammates like Enrique Elizondo, Steve King, Harry Pankow, PMP, EIT, Mathew Vogel, Steve Zimmer, Walker Sanchez, Brandon Jaime-Santos, Luis Quintanar and everyone at Gilmore Construction Corporation who have helped me grow and learn and have tolerated me as I continue to find my way.
