1 thing that will make you a better content leader: Attending Lead with Tempo in June. You’ll get to learn from, and network with, really cool UX content people. (And me.) 😜 I expect to learn a lot from the other speakers (some real content heroes) and I’m curious about meeting people who I’ve only seen online before. And people that I don’t know yet. I love networking and making friends. I’ll also do a bit of talking myself, about UX writing work that makes a difference. Have you heard of Lead with Tempo? It’s a conference for content leaders that is onsite AND online. This year's conference theme is around helping you scale the impact of your team. It’s organised by the fabulous Rachel McConnell and Alis Cox. 😍 Get your ticket and use the code ANNA10 to get a 10% discount! So. Who’s going? 🙋♀️ Link to the event in the comments👇 ————————— Hello, I’m Anna! I help companies with UX writing and localisation. This weekend, I was asked an intriguing question about the key skills that UX Writers should possess beyond the commonly discussed ones. In my view, a critical skill for a UX Writer is the ability to articulate and justify decisions effectively to stakeholders and leadership. This involves presenting the rationale behind choices, the decision-making process, and the resulting outcomes. Mastering the art of advocating for oneself, decisions, team, and management is a valuable yet often underestimated skill that can be cultivated over time. Also, bringing donuts to the office helps too. #UXWriting #ContentStrategy #UserExperience #CareerDevelopment

I can't be the only one who feels this way 😅 🤣. I've given a lot of thought as to why people sometimes seem horrified when I say that I'll be doing some research before I write. Here are the three reasons I've come up with for their horror. 1. They don't understand what a writer would need to research. 2. They haven't been shown the ROI for this time/money spent. 3. Deadlines are real, and they are up against a wall. Here's how I address this: 1. I am explicitly clear about what I will be researching, why, and even how. I explain my reasons for gathering this information and enjoy explaining how my findings will impact the next steps of my process (I'm something of a research evangelist 😂). 2. I am always ready with real-life examples of how research has informed my best writing and the outcome (with numbers!). 3. I have a variety of research methods at my disposal. I match my methods with the timeline and budget. Asking for what you clearly cannot have is a turnoff. Being reasonable in my requests has proven successful. What are your tips and tricks for getting stakeholder buy-in for your research? #UX #UXWriting #UserExperience #ContentDesign #ProductWriting #Microcopy #UXResearch #WordsMatter #Fun

Some months ago, I felt overwhelmed watching this video. I used to believe that I couldn't do it. The obstacles seemed insurmountable. Looking back, I realize I was too hard on myself. However, today, as I rewatch this YouTube video, my perspective has shifted. I believe it's because I've gained more knowledge, experience, and expanded my network. I've learned and grown since then. The presenter's guidance is clear and even inspiring. #uxwriting #uxdesign #learning

Do you want to know how to confuse your users in one click? Use a confirmation modal like the one below👇. As a UX writer, I advocate for the user and identify pain points that lead to users taking the wrong action or making them unable to complete one. I received this dialog after selecting the "x" while editing something. You'd think by now, despite having a contradictory and confusing error message, I'd make the right decision. I didn't. I second-guessed myself 3x before finally selecting Discard. Why am I telling you this? It's to remind everyone that we're all human and make quick decisions on the go, which is why it's so important to write clear and concise instructions to enable and empower users to make the correct decisions. Don't forget, every time you ask a user, "Are you sure...?" an angel loses its wings, so let's save an angel today and deliver a simple and clear message to your users. #uxwriting #userexperience #contentdesign #productdesign

Can I let you on a secret? Your users aren’t reading every word of your product. That success message you wrote explaining the next steps or that empty state you spent painstaking hours over? Yeah, it probably went unnoticed or glossed over. To the manager who is overly critical of every single word or the product manager who asks for multiple options for text with low visibility…stop what you’re doing! Instead, prioritize consistency, clarity, scannability, error prevention and accessibility. As UX writers, we need to make user, product and business decisions. A poorly written dialog can cause a user to take the wrong action. Some of these actions can be fatal, like accidentally deleting something not recoverable. Lacking instructions or writing unclear text leads to mistakes and potential product abandonment. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not telling you not to make that cute 404 page or success message that will brighten someone's day, but to prioritize the high-visibility content first and worry about the secondary content later. 👋 If you want to deliver a simple and clear message to the user, let's talk! Happy Friday! I can finally update the "Licenses & certifications" section on my profile. I purchased the Fundamentals of UX Writing course back in March, and life started "life-ing" (ex. I had a baby lol 🥰) But here we are 6 months later, and I'm now a certified #uxwriter! Huge shoutout to the UX Content Collective team - the material and real-world feedback have been invaluable to my professional development. #uxwriting #professionaldevelopment #upskilling
