New findings from the National College Attainment Network (NCAN), using RAND’s AMES Survey data, reveal significant gaps in college and career readiness metrics. Many school leaders lack access to FAFSA completion and post-graduation outcomes data, hindering equity efforts. Quality advising depends on regular, disaggregated data. Nearly half of high school leaders lack key insights into student employment and advising trends post-graduation. Together, we can improve data systems to better support every student’s success. A (very) big day today! That is, for the ‘thousands of students having received their A-level, T-level, BTec Nationals and other Level 3 results today’ (to quote the BBC). Although my results day starts to seem like a distant memory 😂, I still remember the sheer nerves, excitement & relief I felt that day. In fact, I will probably never forget it. Celebrating all the talented young people out there, who probably had quite a similar experience, I wanted to talk about a matter quite close to my heart😍: why companies should embrace young talent. Young people not only bring enthusiasm to the workplace, but up to date, innovative ideas. They will help your business to stay fresh & provide new skills ⚒. They are quite literally your future workforce, so invest in them! In this world technology is constantly advancing and it is tough to keep up, but young people have grown up with it. They could help your business adapt to new processes and assist those less tech-savvy. (In fact, entries to computing have grown 83.1% since 2019). 💻 With their willingness to learn and their genuine growth mindset- they can pick up new things FAST💪. Young people are not set in their ways, so it is down to you to shape them. Do not be afraid to take a chance on young talent as they will more than likely surprise you! ✌ #Alevels #ResultsDay #GoBeyond https://lnkd.in/g5HYyZbN

As we address the global teacher shortage, how do we ensure early career teachers are classroom-ready? That’s the question considered in new research undertaken with a sample of 221 pre-service teachers by Jeremy Pan Jiadong, Tony Loughland, Rebecca Collie, Andrew Kingsford-Smith, Mary Ryan, Caroline Mansfield, Rachelle Davey, Dr Chrissy Monteleone, and Miriam Tanti. Without real knowledge and hands-on experience, students can’t measure what career is the right fit for them. We go blindly into the workforce or higher education “thinking” this is the right job for me. So many find out it’s not or it wasn’t what they expected. Getting practical experience early on is the best way to determine your strengths and improve your skills for the future.
By strengthening the link between education and workforce, we provide more students with opportunities for career-connected learning and pathways to future career success. 🌟 Learn more about how ED is raising the bar to ensure that every student has an onramp to postsecondary education and training: https://lnkd.in/gg-QXERG #CTE #CTEMonth

Interesting report from the Community College Survey of Student Engagement related to the degree to which community college graduates feel prepared for their chosen careers. One point in particular that stood out from the report was that more than 70% of community college graduates remain in the geographical region in which they attended college (compared to 47% of grads from four-year public schools). This is just further verification of how crucial it is for community colleges to be tuned into local workforce needs - and to share that information with students. What are some unique and innovative ways that your institution connects students to the local workforce? https://lnkd.in/gisjwum7

Emerging practices, research, and technology are poised to transform the student learning experience. One key topic is ensuring high school graduates are truly prepared for their next steps, whether that's in higher education or the workforce. Far too many students earn their diplomas but lack the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in these pathways. By adopting a broader perspective in our monitoring and accountability, we can develop more informed policies, strategies, and investments to prepare students for long-term success. Several states are tackling the barriers to doing this! The Education Strategy Group's "Measurement for Mobility" report highlights several states' practices that utilize college and career readiness metrics (during K-12) along with postsecondary outcomes (after K-12) data to track student success beyond high school graduation. https://lnkd.in/gJA6yimN

When it comes to preparing students for the future, what do you need to know? The latest research from New Hampshire Learning Initiative (NHLI) and Gallup confirms that career-connected learning (CCL) can make a significant difference in school engagement and students’ futures. Through CCL, students prepare for both the workforce and higher education by integrating skills-based learning, training pathways, and practical work experience into their schooling experience. Students who participate in activities that allow them to engage with the community outside of school walls are more likely to agree that CCL opportunities in general have informed what they plan to do after high school. This increased awareness can help students picture (and plan for) careers they had not previously envisioned. https://lnkd.in/gfpDSng5 Discover more in the latest report, “Voices of New Hampshire Students: Career Connected Learning’s Role in Building Bright Futures”, out today!
