A typeface is like an orchestra, and the type designer is its conductor 🎻 🎶 It’s about creating a system of harmonic variation rather than a series of individual parts—even when those parts look good independently. The trick, and it is at the heart of type design, is to tame those variations so that the music that comes out is the sound you are looking for. Mondo di Musica, 60x48 Original art - Available now Mondo di Musica", or literally a "World of Music" was part of my Muse/ically Mussorgsky exhibition, a multi-media show based on composer Mussorgsky’s "Pictures at an Exhibition", which takes listeners on a tour through an imaginary musical art exhibition. What a perfect fit! And yes, the music on this video was the inspiration for this piece! The music for this "movement" depicts the hustle and bustle of a marketplace. To capture that animated energy, Elias places the piano as the central focus, around which orchestral instruments swirl in organic shapes. Slivers of cityscapes peek out on the horizon. The palette is rich, predominantly featuring warm hues of red, orange, and yellow, with contrasting elements of cool blues that add depth and balance. There is a lively sense of movement, as if each element is dancing with its neighbors – the marketplace momentum. Art is a journey, and each piece is a stepping stone to the next discovery. The vibrancy, layering and interplay of the instruments create a sense of complexity that invites the viewer to explore every inch of the canvas. Creating a journey within the piece itself. In Vietnam, there are two main types: - Fixed sand painting, where artisans meticulously scatter sand into containers. The art is easy to develop, with sand sourced from rivers, streams, or the sea, offering a palette of about 81 colors. Renowned artists like Y Lan have made significant contributions to the field, creating over 3,000 diverse sand paintings that mesmerize global audiences. - Unfixed sand painting/Sand animation, a dynamic stage performance, combines sand with modern filmmaking tools like widescreens and lighting for compelling stage performances. Artists like Dang Tri Duc and Phan Anh Vu have made a notable impact in Vietnam by infusing music and storytelling into their sand painting performances. In a world where content and what is trending comes and goes in the blink of an eye, creating something truly timeless is both a challenge and aspirational. Whatever your field: an artist, a writer, a designer, or an entrepreneur, the desire to leave a lasting impact with your work is the ultimate legacy. Last week at Royal Albert Hall, I photographed some iconic artist of the British urban music scene. This included Harvey from SO SOLID CREW. I watched So Solid perform a track to an audience, most of whom were not yet born when the track was released in 2001. And yet the audience appreciated the track by ecstatically miming word for word, creating an incredible atmosphere in the auditorium. In the realm of photography, there exists a transcendent quality that goes beyond mere aesthetics – it's the essence of timelessness. As a headshot photographer, my work is about encapsulating the very essence of an individual, creating a timeless piece of work that resonates for years to come. Creating a timeless headshot is focusing on lighting, authenticity, connection, and attention to detail. A timeless headshot becomes more than just a photograph – it becomes a legacy, preserving the essence of the subject for generations to come.
