Album Pick: Alt-J - An Awesome Wave We have already covered this album, and it remains one of my favorite easy listening rock albums, but is it good enough to make my #SummerMusic suggestions list? Especially with it being an ungodly 94 Degrees today the day after the Celtics won the Championship #BleedGreen! Since we have already covered An Awesome Wave from a perspective of an album I love and own, let’s check it’s summer credentials. Yep it fits! I could just end this hear, but maybe I should pretend like I am doing more than just an emoji review? Here is the deal anything with great synth/piano heavy pop, and pleasent voice with great bridges really pretty much makes the cut. Here songs like “Something Good” (A6) make a heavy appearance, sure “Tesselate” (A2) and “Breezeblocks” (A3) are the dominant singles from Side A, but the lesser known tracks (still very well known) are perfectly pretty for trees waving on a hot summer day over your pool. This might be a good time to interject my plug for “work-life-balance.” I spent the last 4 years of my career struggling with that, and would frequently hit my vacation days accruel cap before taking time off. My resolution for 2024, was to let things flow a bit better, and this album is great for flow! I am A HUGE fan of it for that. I would dive deeper into some of the songs, but as previously mentioned you can search my reviews for a more extensive review, for now I will say the following things: 1.) Way to go Celtics! 2.) This is not just a good summer album but a great summer album! Song Pick: Something good - https://lnkd.in/eC_HdFVN #DailyAlbum #MusicalMusings

On that topic, I want to talk about an album that my generation never really had the opportunity to fully grasp due to the timing of when this project was released. The album in question is The 20/20 Experience by Justin Timberlake, and the one word that fits this project perfectly has to be quality. From the first beat on this album, the essence of quality vocals, production, and engineering can be heard 100% of the time. A great example of this can be heard on the first track, Pusher Love Girl, which opens up with an orchestra ensemble grasping your ears right off the bat. The same follows with the following hit track Suit and Tie featuring Jay Z (who owns the famed label Roc Nation) with the slowed-down horns and violins that immediately start the track that sets the tone for the rest of the song. One theme of this album that Timbaland executes on a perfect level is the evolution of each song. Each track is longer than the average song, spanning between 4 and 8 minutes, depending on the track. When I say song evolution, I'm talking about how the song starts one way, and throughout the track, different sounds are introduced and have their time to be spotlighted, bringing a different vibe to each new section and constantly keeping your ears engaged. The last element that moved me off the bat is the attention to production detail, in the sense that every beat has been perfected and made up of a whole array of instruments and music components that we don't see anymore in modern music, having a consistent orchestra, the use of the voice as an instrument—these elements that make a quality track and put this project on my short list for having the best production. We need to see more projects like this in 2025 and the years to come, really putting an emphasis on sound quality and the dynamic of a producer and artist, which Timbaland and Justin Timberlake executed incredibly and historically have been an unstoppable duo. #qualitymusic #productiongoals #generationaltalent #unstoppableduo #imback #timbalandproduction #justintimberlake #orchestra #loveformusic

Smart approach. Something to consider if I ever end up signing music to labels again. As a side note: this album is a masterpiece.
Random Album Title was a major milestone in deadmau5’s career. But it was also a milestone in how we developed our approach at The Circuit Group. At the time, Joel was producing so much music that he put some of these early albums together from music he’d already made in the past few months. It was still original content but it was signed to the label as a compilation album. The deal we signed was for a short-term license of 15 years. It was a lightbulb moment and it changed the way we looked at deals going forward. Why’s this any different from any other album? Why sign a record deal and give away your rights in perpetuity, when you can do licences on a term? It was the realization that there was a different way. The terms would be the same but we’d keep control. When the contract was up, the artist would get the rights to their IP back. It made us ask ourselves, why couldn’t it always be like this?
