🚀 The Future of IT Hiring in the Public Sector 🚀 In recent months, I've noticed a significant shift in the hiring trends for IT roles within public sector organisations. With the rapid advancement of technology, there's a growing demand for skilled professionals who can navigate the complexities of digital transformation. This trend is particularly evident in the UK, where public sector bodies are increasingly prioritising cybersecurity, data analytics, and cloud computing skills. One of the most exciting developments is the emphasis on cybersecurity. According to a recent report by the National Cyber Security Centre, there has been a 30% increase in cybersecurity roles within the public sector over the past year. This surge is driven by the need to protect sensitive information and ensure the integrity of public services. As someone who has worked in IT for over a decade, I can attest to the importance of having robust cybersecurity measures in place. Another noteworthy trend is the rise of remote and flexible working arrangements. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of remote work, and public sector organisations are no exception. This shift has opened up opportunities for IT professionals across the country, allowing them to contribute to critical projects without being tied to a specific location. It's an exciting time to be in IT, as we witness the public sector embracing new ways of working and leveraging technology to improve efficiency and service delivery. What are your thoughts on these trends? Have you noticed similar patterns in your industry? Let's discuss! 💬 #ITJobs #PublicSector #DigitalTransformation

While creating a lesson (The Cybersecurity Job Landscape) for one of my new courses, I thought to capture a "point in time" view of the job market in major economies across the globe using LinkedIn. For good measure, I added African countries with >30 openings to the mix. Here are 10 of my notable findings: 1️⃣ The state of Wyoming, which is the least populous state in the US, had the least number of cyber security job openings (1,873) but that number is higher than the total number of job openings in the country of Spain (1,872). 2️⃣ The Republic of Ireland had more job openings (699) than the entire Sub-Saharan Africa (600). 3️⃣ The state of Virginia had more cyber security job openings (9,144) than the United Kingdom (8,745), which had the 2nd highest number in Europe behind Germany (10,039). 4️⃣ Canada had less job openings (3,081) than at least 14 US states. 5️⃣ Approximately 10% (5,390) of cyber security job openings in the US were advertised as "Fully Remote". 6️⃣ Job openings in South Africa accounted for approximately 64% of all cyber security jobs in Sub-Saharan Africa. 7️⃣ Wyoming, the least populous state in the US (~600,000 people) had more than x3 the number of job openings in Sub-Saharan Africa 8️⃣ The country of Australia (1,580) also had less number of job openings than the state of Wyoming (1,873). 9️⃣ At least 50% of US states had more job openings than the country of Japan (2,342). 🔟 South Africa (382) had more job openings than all major West African Countries (Ghana [82], Nigeria [79], CIV [28], Cameroon [24], Senegal [21]) combined. WHY IS THIS INFORMATION IMPORTANT? 👉 If you're in the region of the world with limited opportunities, you have a far better chance of securing a job outside of your region than you have within it *as long as you have what it takes*. 👉 We are never going to win the cyber war, but winning key battles requires looking beyond our geographical boundaries for talents. About 3 years ago, Jeff Weiner, LinkedIn's Executive Chairman said: "Talent is equally distributed but opportunity is not. With remote work (and hiring) gaining widespread acceptance, opportunity should increasingly be available wherever talent can be found." This will continue to happen. 👉 When you read that cybersecurity workforce shortage has hit 4 million, as you read that headline, also read between the lines. If you're reading this, you're highly unlikely to be working outside of the regions within my scope of discussion. Today, I found less than 200k openings albeit with LinkedIn as the only source. I'm looking for a balance of 3.8 million. Any help will be appreciated.😀 Caveat: this data is from a single source (LinkedIn), so take it with a grain of salt. Accurate as of 12pm CST, January 17, 2024. cc:Digiss Cyberation

$783,000 annual salary in a cybersecurity position? Cybersecurity professionals are in high demand, and high demand is usually closely coupled with big money. Let’s have a look at which roles you can make the biggest bucks. (We’re looking at US salaries here; European salaries are usually 30-40% less.) 6. Cybersecurity Analyst Average salary: $118,000 per year Role: Monitor network security events, analyze threats, recommend improvements. 5. Cybersecurity Engineer Average salary: $174,000 annually Role: Develop and implement security solutions to defend against cyber threats. 4. Cybersecurity Manager Average salary: $183,000 per year Role: Leading security teams, developing security strategies, and policies. 3. Cybersecurity Architect Average salary: $256,000 annually Role: Design and overview of network and security architectures to protect against cyberattacks. 2. Cybersecurity Director Average salary: $330,000 annually Role: Strategic planning and leadership of an organization's cybersecurity initiatives. 1. Senior Cybersecurity Director Average salary: $402,000 annually, up to $783,000 for the top 10% Role: Overall responsibility for cybersecurity, often with a broader scope of responsibility and more experience. Good to know: - Most important responsibilities: IAM, AppSec, and product security. Industries: Finance, healthcare, and technology are the top industries. - Talent shortage: Only 72% of current demand is being met, leading to long working hours. Gender diversity: Despite improvements, the average pay gap remains at 7%. Salary figures can vary regionally and depend heavily on experience, certifications, location, and the size of the employer. Final thoughts: Cybersecurity experts are in demand like never before. The diversity of roles and high salaries are evidence of a dynamic and lucrative industry. However, the pressure and demands are high, leading to an increased risk of burnout. Everything comes at a price.
