Lightweight Gravel Electric Bike Boosts Range by 50% Italian bicycle manufacturer 3T has launched a new model of their Gravel electric bike, which is 12 kilograms lighter than its predecessor and also boasts an increased range. The key components of the RaceMax Boost include the Mahle hub motor (X-20), a 150-kilometer range battery, and a carbon fiber frame. The battery capacity has been increased from 236 Wh to 350 Wh. Despite the larger battery, the frame material keeps the Gravel e-bike relatively lightweight. Additionally, there is an option to attach a 173 Wh bottle battery to extend the range per charge, though this will add 1.1 kilograms to the overall weight. This bogie has been designed with an emphasis on interchangeability, higher operating speeds and safety, while it significantly outperforms standard solutions. TVP NG2 HS bogie is particularly distinguished by its suspension, in which no atypical materials are used in the primary suspension.  An important part of the bogie is the longitudinal inter-axle coupling, which improves running characteristics of the vehicle. To support increased speed of 140 km/h, the bogie is equipped with a damper of yawing movements, which leads to a smoother run and ensures its stability. One of the main benefits of the bogie is its ability to reduce dynamic effects to a track, leading to significant reduction in wheel wear of up to 30%. Weight-optimised wheelsets with a wheel diameter of 920 mm from BONATRANS GROUP a.s. are made of improved steel quality and feature innovative noise dampers that reduce wheel rolling noise by up to 7 dB(A) and squealing noise by up to 20 dB(A). Automotive lightweighting is a major trend in the new energy vehicle industry. This is mainly because lightweighting can improve the range of new energy vehicles, reduce energy consumption, and help lower battery costs. Since the battery packs of new energy vehicles are relatively heavy, lightweighting is particularly important for these vehicles. Lightweighting technology can reduce the weight of components, improve driving range, and reduce component wear while meeting vehicle safety requirements. For example, according to the announcement by China Jushi, reducing the weight of the entire vehicle by 10% can improve fuel efficiency by 6%-8%; for every 100 kg reduction in vehicle weight, fuel consumption per 100 km can be reduced by 0.3-0.6 liters; and reducing vehicle weight by 1% can lower fuel consumption by 0.7%. Additionally, the application of lightweight technology can shorten braking distances, increase kinetic energy savings, improve acceleration performance, enhance maximum speed, and reduce noise and vibration. Lightweighting also helps control the cost of new energy vehicles.
