https://lnkd.in/e7WDwXvD Extracts Audi TT Audi named the TT after the Tourist Trophy held annually on the Isle of Man. The German firm has never mass-produced a motorcycle, let alone raced one in the TT, but the event is nonetheless part of its (complicated) heritage. DKW, one of the companies that merged to form Audi, made racing motorcycles during the 1930s. One of its bikes won the TT in 1938. NSU motorcycles captured the first four spots in the 250cc category during the 1954 TT. The initials appeared on a moped in 1960 and on a sportier evolution of the Prinz in 1965. The Prinz TT and TTS enjoyed a long and successful racing career which Audi paid tribute to when it introduced the TT concept at the 1995 Frankfurt auto show - and Audi owns the right to use the TT name as a result of its ancestor models. Chevrolet Camaro When Chevrolet released the Camaro in 1967, most of its cars wore a name that started with the letter C. The branding team in charge of finding a name for project Panther allegedly made a list of 2000 words that start with a C, including a few that they made up. Camaro was one of them. Though it has a Spanish ring to it, the name Camaro doesn’t mean anything in any language. Chevrolet famously told journalists who attended the car’s launch that a Camaro is a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs. Dodge Challenger/Charger/Durango SRT Dodge uses the SRT suffix to denote its most powerful cars. It’s on the Hellcat V8-powered variants of the Charger and the Challenger (pictured) and on the hot-rodded Durango, a family-friendly SUV capable of a 12.9-second quarter-mile. SRT – which got promoted to a standalone brand for the 2013 and 2014 model years – stands for street and racing technology. While the Hellcat emblem depicts what looks like a cat sent from hell, Dodge borrowed the name from a fighter plane the US Navy used during World War II. Mercedes-Benz G-Class In 1979, Mercedes-Benz called the G-Class Geländewagen, a German term which literally translates to “cross country vehicle.” This is where the often-used nickname G-Wagen comes from. The Geländewagen became the G-Class when Mercedes revamped its entire naming system in 1994, as already mentioned. Porsche 911 Flashbulbs popped as Porsche introduced the brand-new 901 at the 1963 Frankfurt auto show. Sleek and powerful, the 356’s long-awaited successor made headlines all around the world but it caught the attention of Peugeot for a completely different reason. The French firm swiftly reminded Porsche that it owned the rights to every three-digit car nameplate with a zero in the middle. And, though it didn’t plan on releasing a model named 901 and it certainly had no intention of building a rear-engined sports car, it wasn’t about to let Porsche get away with trademark infringement. Porsche replaced the zero with a one to create the 911. It made about 82 901-badged pre-production cars before changing the car’s name. It's fair to say the 911 hasn't looked back.

The Legacy of the Audi Silver Arrow A moment to honour a monumental chapter in automotive history—the birth of the "Silver Arrow." Back on May 27, 1934, Audi's precursor, Auto Union, alongside Mercedes-Benz, began a new era in motorsports with the introduction of Germany’s first high-speed racing cars at Berlin’s Avus racetrack. Conceived by the legendary Ferdinand Porsche and developed by the innovative teams at Auto Union, these cars were marvels of their time, featuring rear engines and a groundbreaking design that limited their weight to just 750 kilograms. These specifications allowed the Audi predecessors to reach astounding speeds of up to 380 kilometers per hour by 1936, setting new benchmarks in the racing world 🔧 The distinct silver finish of these cars wasn't just about aesthetics—it marked the inception of the “Silver Arrow” as a symbol of futuristic design and exceptional engineering prowess 🎨 Though they didn't clinch victory in their debut race, the performance and technological innovations of the Auto Union racing cars quickly dominated the scene until the late 1930s, securing numerous podiums and capturing the imaginations of fans worldwide 🏁 Today, Audi draws inspiration from this rich heritage of innovation and excellence. The "Silver Arrow" not only reflects our pioneering past but also drives us towards future innovations. Join us in celebrating the spirit and legacy that continue to define our brand today. #AudiHeritage #SilverArrow #InnovationLeaders #AudiLindsaySaker

Lot 83 1979 BMW M1 Artcurial BMW Group BMW M Estimation 500,000 - 600,000 € French title Chassis No WBS00000094301068 - Sold new in France, almost first hand - Rare and powerful model; 66,250 km since new - The symbol of BMW's commitment to motorsport Inspired by the BMW Turbo concept car presented in 1972 and designed by Giugiaro, the BMW M1 is the first to bear the famous "M" of BMW Motorsport. Initially created as a special homologation (in Group 4), it was designed under the responsibility of the motorsport department, at the time headed by Jochen Neerspach. The bodywork was made of fibreglass and had a 3.5-litre six-cylinder mid-engine derived from the CSL coupe versions, with a 24-valve cylinder head and dry sump lubrication. Unveiled at the 1978 Paris Motor Show, it made its appearance as a high-level grand touring machine. This particular M1 was one of the first to have been delivered in France. It was sold by the BMW Pelleras dealership in Toulouse (delivered at the same time as the example of Mr Pelleras himself) and registered on the 5th October 1979 in the name of its first owner who kept it until 2019, when he transferred it to the current owner, a BMW dealer based in the west. The car has a mileage of only 76,560 km. It also includes both its keys and the user manual. After purchasing it, the car went to the dealership's workshop for a full service and had some work done to restore it to its optimal condition. The double-plate clutch was replaced, as well as the shock absorbers, the oil tank, the timing belt, the injectors, the fuel pump and the Pirelli tyres which are identical to the original. The interior was cleaned and restored, so much so that its seats and carpets look like they are in new condition. The car is delivered with all its BMW Toulouse servicing invoices and its original tool kit. This is an example in exceptional original condition and hard to find on the market. With only 399 road-legal examples built, the M1 is a rare car which can be used every day, as it is versatile and comfortable both at low speeds and at 260 km/h (on a track!) #classic #classics #classiccars #collectorcars #carcollectors #historic #vintage #performance #racing #rallying #driving #car #cars #automotiveindustry #auto #autos #autoindustry #auction #forsale #sold #automotive #investment #privatesale

Long-lost Audi hypercar revealed as brand plots sports car future https://lnkd.in/dpAK-3j2 Audi is shaping the electrified future of its top-drawer RS performance models and could deploy learnings from its nascent Formula 1 programme in a range- topping, road-going supercar. The firm has just quietly revealed a never-made hypercar concept from 2013, which is no longer a live project but gives a strong indication of how the brand’s motorsport efforts could influence future sports cars. Making its belated debut in a new aerodynamics exhibition at Audi’s museum in Ingolstadt, Germany, the Scorpion was conceived as a flagship supercar to sit above the Audi R8, with heavy design and technical influence from the company’s successful endurance sports car racers. Obvious cues – most notably from the R18 E-tron Le Mans racer – include the large stabilising fin along the rear deck, gaping aero tunnels and downforce-optimising carbon bodykit. Audi also cites the aero influence of its DTM touring cars. While no technical details of the Scorpion show car have been given, Autocar reported in 2013 that Audi was working on a hypercar with a 600bhp diesel-electric powertrain in place of the pure-electric R8 E-tron it had decided to shelve. The exclusive super-hybrid, dubbed ‘R10’, was planned to “provide a direct link between Audi’s motorsport activities and the road car side”. In reality, neither car was brought to production and Audi categorically says development of the Scorpion “will not be continued”. But the firm’s entry into Formula 1 from the 2026 season could open the door to a new racing-inspired halo car in the same vein, much as it has for Audi’s soon-to-be F1 rivals, Mercedes-AMG, Red Bull and Aston Martin. Asked about his appetite for such a model as a brand- building tool and R&D outlet, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner gave a vague response: “We are in a much broader discussion to see where in our portfolio we can come up with emotional vehicles.” (...)

As we are winding our way into the 2024 F1 season, there will be new cars coming soon! How about a look back to the 1925 Bugatti is a special opportunity to contrast and compare. NO RESERVE! Lot 12 1925 Bugatti Type 35 Grand Prix par Gilles Fournier No reserve Estimation 300,000 - 500,000 € Artcurial Retromobile Show BUGATTI French title Chassis No 4467 (see text) - Magnificent quality of execution - Numerous original parts - Sold for the benefit of the France Parkinson association - No reserve "Track record between the 24th January 1926 to the 19th September 1926 - 503 wins - Over 2 victories per day - 351 First Prizes - 47 Records" are the words written in the Bugatti catalogue in 1926! This enlightening list of achievements, which was expected to increase significantly in years to come, was largely due to what many considered to be THE masterpiece of Ettore Bugatti: the Type 35. Its first official appearance was on the 3rd August 1924 during the Lyon Grand Prix and even if the results were not instantly there, the essential part was there: a narrow horseshoe radiator in the extension of which you can find a profiled bodywork finished with a Bordino tip, gorgeous cast aluminium rims integrating the brake drums and a brilliant 8-cylinder in-line 2L engine derived from the Type 30. The overall quality of execution is simply incredible, the car is stable and fast and it didn't take long to establish itself worldwide. The 35 evolved in accordance with regulations, seeing its cylinder capacity in-crease (35T-2,300 cc) and its power increase thanks to the fitting of a compres-sor (35 B and 35 C). These developments also led to some discreet aesthetic modifications such as a more enhanced radiator. That being said, the 35 "Grand Prix de Lyon" remains the first milestone in this exceptional history and still has a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts. It was also the case for Gilles Four-nier, renowned expert on the Amilcar brand, author of many reference publica-tions, whose passion for pre-war racing cars (and the Bugatti brand in particular) had led him to start looking for Bugatti 35 parts from the early 1980s, with the aim of building a Grand Prix as similar as possible to the original. In the early 2000s, he was joined by a friend, Emmanuel Cognet, who also wanted to build a 35. It was with undisguised pleasure that we went behind the wheel of this Bugatti, after carrying out our usual checks with Frederic Novo. With the exception of the starter which will need to be checked, absolutely everything is in working order and the car is very pleasant to drive. The power and sound of this 8-cylinder engine makes you want to keep going forever and take the road to the next Grand Prix. #classic #classics #classiccars #collectorcars #carcollectors #historic #vintage #performance #racing #rallying #driving #car #cars #automotiveindustry #auto #autos #autoindustry #auction #forsale #sold #automotive #investment #privatesale
