Merseyside Police’s Post

This is Dave Robbins. He has recently celebrated his 50 years of service with us 🌟 Dave was born in 1953 in #Liverpool, and after training in engineering and completing his apprenticeship, he realised he wanted an outdoor job, so joined us in 1974 when he was just 21. His career as a Police Constable in South Liverpool spanned an impressive 30 years, with his last post being at Admiral Street. Dave said he “enjoyed living and working” in the community he served during that time. In 2005, Dave moved into the General Enquiry Office team and has stayed there ever since. He worked at Marsh Lane for seven years until moving to the Birkenhead and Wallasey stations. He has helped look after the Police Cadets in Sefton in a voluntary role, and still continues to work with the community on a regular basis. During his time on the front desk, he has worked with various Domestic Violence organisations and given talks on campaigns such as Clare’s Law ❤️ Dave has undertaken a mentoring role with University of Chester and more recently with Liverpool John Moores University. This role involves having two students for five weeks. During their placement Dave shows them all Merseyside Police has to offer and at the end of their time they have a good understanding of how the criminal justice system works. In his spare time, Dave was a scout leader for 15 years and travelled the world with local charities delivering aid to children, such as building an orphanage in Belarus, building playgrounds in Kosovo and delivering Christmas presents to children in Mozambique! When asked why he has dedicated 50 years of his life to Merseyside Police, Dave said because he “enjoys helping people”. He added: “It’s only now I realise how lucky I have been in having an employer like Merseyside Police who have supported me throughout my career”. Congratulations on hitting such an incredible milestone Dave, you are an absolute asset to our force 👏

Thank you for your amazing service dedication and commitment. Sadly he will be the last of a generation in policing in its current format to do this. No longer will you have 20 year let alone 50 years of dedicated service The job has changed, until such time as those in political power realise, support, train and fund better, officers will continue to burn out and leave.

I'm rather hoping Merseyside Police, that this LinkedIn post isn't the only recognition that Dave's going to get? I've seen too many undeserved honours given out over the years, but if ever there was an individual whose dedication, quality and length of service more deserved a KPM than Dave, I can't think of many off the top of my head. I know you couldn't possibly say, but let's hope I'm not the only one who thinks it would be a good idea.

Dave a great achievement 50 Years .I only managed 35 years but I had a similar start to you.I was born in 1949 in Manchester and I started work as an engineer in Old Trafford close to the worlds most famous football team.I was then sent to Stretford Tech and right next door was Stretford police station and I thought I might prefer a collar and tie as opposed to overalls so I joined the police.Regards to you.
