Begs the question, as Hume City Council runs its final Circular Economy Business webinar for 2024: If Victoria is the worst state to invest and start up a CE business, how are all levels of government going to cut the red tape and cost of licences to move the transition from rhetoric to reality, and support existing business and start-ups? This is the cold hearted reality, as MiA sees it, especially for start up repair businesses that require practical support and tax incentives, not costly licences that would not assist in making repair more affordable for the consumer. And, let's not forget Victorian volunteers doing the heavy lifting for the state when it comes to the repairing of textiles and electrical items. The red tape, bureaucracy and lack of ongoing funding around these repair activities must be addressed if communities are going to lead their local CE from the bottom up, and scale out to reuse and repair hubs and precincts along with businesses and industries. Currently, it appears to MiA that the hard questions around the practicalities are just that, too hard or uncomfortable to voice. As an example, there are hints that MiA would be an asset to the CE. But hints to any interested CE advocates are probably not going to result in further buy-in whilst state and local red tape is a barrier, and their work is not renumerated. Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute for Public Finance and Accountancy, Rob Whiteman CBE writes in TheMJ about the lack of focus on preventative policies that could boost public sector productivity. Responding to the letter, CIPFA CEO Rob Whiteman, said: "There’s one question on prevention and nine on waste - including EDI officers and trade unions. It’s populist nonsense to put this in the same letter." Local authorities are required to submit evidence to Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) by July 19. To find out why we think these plans verge on election literature rather than attempts at plugging material gaps, read more in The MJ now: https://lnkd.in/eNr2fVKx #publicsector #productivityplans #prevention #localgovernment

Look, I’ve never really been a big fan of the Greens Party and their hug a tree roll in the grass policies that seemingly stopped business progress in its tracks. BUT, over the past few years I have come to see the important and vital necessity of balancing good environmental policies and commercial practices together. Behind the coalition's extreme drive for radical commercialisation Shane's bullish attitude, as with Seymour, for quick short-term fixes using divisive smoke screens such as Māori and community issues, may appease the hearts and minds of commercial contractors and elitists where, as usual, only the few benefit, but what is missing in this coalition's seeming drive to return NZ to a turn-of-the-century era, is a well though-out strategic roadmap to understand the medium to long term outlook for all NZers to buy into. What NZ has slowly lost over the decades is it’s unique global positioning of being a clean green friendly safe country to do business with. The ‘100% pure NZ’ campaign and brand was created as a spearhead to bring ALL NZers and industries together with which to revive NZ’s global positioning not just for tourism, but for trade also. Unfortunately, It was cut short before it could give full effect to its long term deliverable promise. Had we continued building the platforms of the brand and campaign, it would have set us up in a leading position post covid19. The triangular diagram of the strategy with culture (indigenous) at one point environment at another and economy (resources) at the third bought together in the centre of the triangle equalled benefits to all NZers (KIWI’s). Bastardizing or prostituting NZ to align only with world wants and commercial demands without protection policies for people, culture, communities and unique identity, is simply selling ourselves out.

I'm curious, if you run a business in the UK, that relies on water, please let me know in the comments if are you aware that: 💦 UK Water companies are regulated to supply domestic customers but not businesses 💦 There is a Goverment target for you to reduce your water use by 9% 💦 Water reuse could be offered rather than a new mains supply in Suffolk as resources are just not there to guarantee supply 💦 If you are considering using AI for your business, your water footprint could explode https://lnkd.in/eQGAHTy6 💦 Regularly reading your own water meters is the first and simplest step to water management. Then just ask yourself, should I be using that much?

While everyone else seems to be talking about economic growth and carbon emissions, reality hits Suffolk. Is it right that businesses face mains water restrictions first? #WaterEfficiencyForum #Waterwise https://lnkd.in/eyWTxGAk

Forget about the potholes and The Glasgow Empire being closed. The questions really sensible people in Scotland should ACTUALLY be asking are: * Why, in a wee, very rich Country AWASH with Natural Resources, are we subjected to "huge cuts"? * Why is Scotland skint but Denmark isn't? * Why can I visit Scotland's biggest (only) Nuclear Power Station and write a review on TripAdvisor but I can't visit Scotland's Biggest Scotch Whisky Distillery? * Should we be making our own sandwiches for work and repairing our own shoes, like the good old days, when Glasgow was the 2nd City of the Empire? * Why do Scottish people even NEED to go abroad? Questions, questions. Scotland. Some on here think we're a Local Country, for Local People. It's almost like the UK is taking advantage of Scotland. Luckily, we still have 'a certain demographic' on here AND The Krankies, to garner MBEs, talk sense and build Empires.
The Council have cancelled their New York jolly. A small thing but at least they’re starting to realise how angry the people of Glasgow really are. Things I hate to hear.. ‘What’s the point in complaining?’ ‘They never listen anyway?’ ‘We may as well just get on with it?’ Don’t ever get demoralised. Keep pushing. LEZ’s, outrageous parking charges, money wasting..whatever. Let’s keep on at these clowns. Push, push, push and don’t ever never give up. Use your voice. https://lnkd.in/esx_y792
