Queue the glut of "this is what I'm seeing for 2025" posts from your well-meaning, rizz-fishing, trend-jumping marketing friends. I'm going the opposite route. Here's what I'm not seeing: ⛔ Discipline around marketing fundamentals. Marketing is about understanding human behavior, building trust through authenticity, and nurturing relationships with people over time. These fundamentals are timeless, hard to measure and boring because they require consistency. ⛔ An understanding of what actually builds markets. Consider word of mouth. Literally the oldest form of marketing. One person sharing something authentic, interesting and relevant with someone else. Amidst all the algorithms, digital noise, and obsession with engineered virality, you might forget the best advertising comes from conversations between two people who know each other. Probably more than ever. Consider yourself reminded. ⛔ Brand appreciation. Branding is expensive. It's hard to do. You have to understand people. It takes leaders who realize focusing on every click, view or conversion available. right. this. very. second. should not be allowed to completely supplant the long, arduous slog required to embed a brand into the cultural fabric of society. While I've seen a few LinkedIN posts by CEOs who seem to be differentiating themselves by doing innovative, ground-breaking things like... talking to customers, I'm not optimistic. #brandadvertising #wordofmouthmarketing #marketingbasics
