A fascinating article in The74 shared results from a new survey of 20,000 parents. It reveals a surprising shift in how they gauge their children’s academic success. Grades are no longer the top measure! Instead, parents are placing more trust in direct communication with teachers. As Bibb Hubbard, president of Learning Heroes (US), said, “For the first time, grades are not the number one factor. Teachers really are on the front lines in terms of communicating to families about where their kids are.” This trend underscores the power of strong parent-teacher relationships and the value of open, ongoing dialogue about student progress. #Education #Parenting #StudentSuccess #LearningHeroes

Three essentials from my standpoint: 1) Students need to read more (and not have teachers cede ground by saying "kids just don't read much anymore." Questions for adults: Are you reading? Are kids seeing you read? P.S. "Reading" on phone doesn't count.) 2) They need less tech distractions. 3) They need to know the purpose of a well-rounded education (and it isn't just "to get a job" which may or may not be around by the time they matriculate). Special bonus: A Christian education, however delivered, provides the why and purpose of learning on so many fronts--an education that does something FOR students as well as TO students. #education #learning #formation #reading #Christianeducation
OPINION: As kids head back to school, parents should be asking if their kids are ready for grade-level work

For student parents, balancing education, work, and family is a delicate juggling act. These students are often single mothers, working full-time while attending community college, and they make up about 1 in 5 learners. Yet, most colleges fail to offer the support systems that would allow them to thrive. In this Inside Higher Ed article, Amber Angel from ECMC Foundation explains, ‘It’s not about whether or not they’re committed or they’re hardworking. It’s more about having supports and visibility.’ With accessible policies, child-friendly spaces, and holistic support, we can ensure student parents no longer feel invisible on campus. It’s time to build institutions where all learners, especially those with families, feel seen and supported. 💙 https://lnkd.in/gRFS9FV9 #highered #highereducation #educationforall #studentsuccess #adultlearners #parentstudents #collegeaccess #onlinelearning #workingmoms #inclusiveeducation #setupforsuccess #retentionstrategies #emchat #edtech #accesstoeducation #supportingstudents

Even with the challenges students have faced in the aftermath of learning disruptions, it is still possible to bridge the gap. It goes without saying that learning loss in reading, mathematics, and social development, especially among disadvantaged communities, is still rampant. Various strategies such as teaching programs, tutoring, hands-on learning, and access to training at organized centers can make a real difference. In addition to comprehensive teaching strategies, schools have implemented creative solutions to address other challenges, such as reducing chronic absenteeism by engaging in learning, and are already seeing positive results. Thankfully, all hope is not lost; there is still time for these barriers to be removed, and every child can be helped to achieve greatness. As one student said, 'It's just like a happier version of school. #StudentSuccess #EducationMatters #ChildrensEducation #ChildDevelopment
