I have to say, The Sifted conference was FANTASTIC! The “How to Take a Startup to New Markets” panel really stood out for me, moderated by Daphné Leprince-Ringuet, with insights from Duncan Clark, Sahar Meghani and Eshita Kabra the discussion hit home for what we do at Propel! Here are some key takeaways from yesterday, which also links in to my 2 week New York City trip... It’s clear why New York is a startup hub. The time zone works for US-Europe/UK collaboration, and the talent pool is unmatched. The energy and access to investors make it an ideal place for scaling globally. A common theme that I’m seeing across companies expanding internationally, the commercial teams are being put in place, but Marketing is often forgotten - DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE POWER OF BUILDING YOUR BRAND AWARENESS LOCALLY! In short, Founders need to think critically about their runway and costs, as strong leadership and company culture are essential for tackling the challenges of new markets! Big shout out to Amy Lewin and Mimi Billing making it a huge success.

In the startup world, where every step can be crucial, the founder's personal brand plays an important role. Thanks to AROUND PR studio and Antonina Brodowicz , we hosted a session for f27.club members to discuss how a personal brand can be used to grow a startup and what to consider to make it really effective. Here are some key recommendations from Antonina for founders who want to build their personal brand: ✔️ Once you become a startup founder, your personal brand starts working for you and your product. It's important not just to broadcast a pretty picture, but to be sincere and open, showing your real value ✔️ Publishing, speaking, participating in discussions and content where you demonstrate your expertise will help build your reputation as a thought leader. It's not just a way to raise recognition, but a way to build depth of trust and engagement ✔️ Investors are more likely to respond to well-known personal brands of founders, which can greatly influence their decision-making

An underutilized but so! critical step that too many founders completely forego. That discovery totally blew my mind when I started digging deep in the venture space. (It also meant that my research process of (in)validation was giving our founders and the studio such a competitive advantage 💪🏽.) one day I’ll have a whole preso on this but for now… Check out the workshop 👇 and use research to your advantage.
It’s easy to get excited about the next innovation project, initiative or venture that you’re working on. We get it. Building stuff is fun. But too often corporate innovators and business strategists end up building things people don’t need or want. Elizabeth van Monsjou, PhD, Senior Venture Strategy Director of Research Highline Beta is running a virtual workshop on July 24th where she will show you how to conduct user research to gather and analyze key insights, with the goal of finding problems worth solving and building better ventures. Really enjoyed Startup Grind London's event this week on "Pitching to Media". It was great to meet and watch 🎥 Gabriel Isserlis pitch along with some other awesome founders. 😍 The content reminded me a lot of advice for dealing with investors, with themes around understanding a firm and an individual's subject area, relationship-building over time and doing your homework before doing cold outreach. Some of my key learnings about what journalists are looking for: 👉 be concise and clear about what your company does: journalists are busy people and write for a living, so they know how to succinctly communicate ideas but are very frequently on the receiving end of poor written communication. do this and you will automatically stand out in their inbox. 👉 personalise your outreach: include a relevant topic in your subject line and for goodness' sake get their name right 👉 find their subject: read what they have written before. if possible, speak to other founders or people they have interviewed. get a sense of how your specialism overlaps with theirs and reach out to them when you have a mutual interest. 👉 link your story to what's going on in the world: especially for news publications but may apply to features and other types of publishing too, journalists are writing about what's current. so the more lines you can draw between your mission and what's already in the news, the more likely it is that someone already covering that beat will be interested in a story. 👉 invite them for coffee! (or tea in Jim Norton's case) to build a relationship. Thanks so much to Gabriel Pizzolante , Sam Adekunle and the startup grind team, Craig Corbett and Publicize for organising, sponsors Howard Kennedy LLP and Airwallex and all the judges for providing their insights Sophia Epstein from Digital Frontier , Thomas Macaulay at TNW, Sharon Kits Kimathi at @Reuters and @Jim Norton at the Daily Mail. 🙏🏻

One of the largest investor / founder brands in the world is born 🚀 Already over $300 billion worth of speakers at past Super Founder events 🔥🔥🔥 Why we’re doing it… Running companies and getting investment will continue to be hard globally 🌎 until we have “well rounded prescriptive lenses distributed at scale from trusted sources”. This is why I’m bullish on studios, mentoring and these Super Founder events we host like the one next Friday with top names like Peter Walker of Carta, 385,000 follower (15x founder) Daniel Mumby, Adam Robinson, a Blackrock advisor, VCs and a ton more. - To get the “well rounded” component you need lots of people/speakers/advisors. - To get the “prescriptive” component you need mentoring and advisors listening and giving “custom” feedback (plus dynamic software - inputs/outputs). - To get the “distribution scale” component you need a media brand/arm. - To get the “trusted sources” component you need well known/trusted names together agreeing. We’re solving the hardest problem in the world… “Creating high quality high scale founders rapidly at scale”. Join us! I’m using my pull to get amazing speakers for FREE to you all. I hope you all enjoy! Invite your friends! …we usually have hundreds per event….they keep growing…the goal is tens of thousands over time. We’re making this one of the biggest brands in the founder investor world. See details for next Friday here and one-click register/attend 🙂 https://lnkd.in/gBUTx7H2
