Awarding credit for #college-level learning gained outside the classroom generally reduces costs for learners and shortens the time it takes for them to earn postsecondary credentials. 💡 Can this also be a way to strengthen #YouthApprenticeship programs? Along with Advance CTE, our Partnership to Advance Youth Apprenticeship (#PAYA) team recently published a policy brief detailing how credit for prior learning (CPL) can help leaders eliminate opportunity gaps for young learners in their communities as well as support adult learners interested in upskilling. Review five use case examples from across the country and take away three actionable strategies for leveraging CPL in your own state. This is a big deal for youth apprenticeships in the Federal Government. And, how fitting to have U.S. Department of Labor lead the charge. My dozen years in Federal service has led to so many terrific career opportunities. I hope it can do the same for others through #youthapprenticeship #apprenticeshipswork #registeredapprenticeship #apprenticeship

PRESS RELEASE: California Community Colleges Celebrates Apprenticeship Week. The California Community Colleges recognizes this week, Nov. 17th through the 23rd, as the 10th anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week by “Celebrating 10 Years of Engagement, Expansion and Innovation.” Apprenticeship programs offer a unique blend of hands-on training and classroom learning, providing learners with valuable skills and hands-on experience to prepare them for future careers. The California Community Colleges is the largest workforce development and training system in the nation and uniquely positioned to create, pilot and expand apprenticeships across many different career pathways, including nursing, manufacturing and information and agricultural technologies. The system is playing a crucial role in Gov. Newsom’s goal of training 500,000 apprentices by 2029. To date, 94,000 registered apprentices and 2,200 registered pre-apprentices have stepped foot on one of our 116 California community colleges. This is about 20% of the goal. “While we celebrate this milestone, we continue to identify student-centered approaches to learning and skills preparation. Through the California Apprenticeship Initiative, the New and Innovative Pre-Apprenticeship and Apprenticeship Grant Programs and the California Opportunity Youth Apprenticeship Grant, among others, we are removing barriers and facilitating access to jobs in high-growth, high-demand industries,” said California Community Colleges Chancellor Sonya Christian. 🎉 EDvance College Has Become A Registered ECE Apprenticeship Sponsor! 🎉 This year, with the support of ECEPTS, EDvance College proudly became a Registered Apprenticeship Sponsor. Our Apprenticeship Standards were officially approved by the U.S. Department of Labor for two key roles in early childhood education: Early Childhood Educator (Teacher Child Development Permit Level) and Lead Early Childhood Educator (Master Teacher Child Development Permit Level). Our apprenticeship program creates an earn-and-learn pathway, blending classroom learning with hands-on experience. Student-employees can earn their degrees, gain practical skills, and secure wage increases, all while maintaining financial stability. By aligning our college programs with Registered Apprenticeship Standards, we ensure that both students and employer partners benefit from high-quality, career-advancing opportunities. In addition to serving as a sponsor, EDvance also plays a critical role as the Related Technical Instruction (RTI) Provider for other Registered Apprenticeship programs sponsored by our partners. This allows us to expand our reach and provide specialized instruction across various apprenticeship pathways. We are excited to pilot this program with Felton Institute, one of our dedicated employer partners. Together, we are co-creating a pathway that empowers Felton’s workforce while strengthening our collaboration as a higher education partner. #RegisteredApprenticeship #EarlyChildhoodEducation #ECE #EDvanceCollege #HigherEducation #ApprenticeshipSponsor #EarnAndLearn

As we end this academic year, it’s worth noting the changes to funding and support coming into effect throughout this coming academic year to help young learners gain access to Apprenticeships. Employers who don’t pay an Apprenticeship levy may receive funding from the government for Apprentices aged between 22 and 24. Furthermore, the de minimis on employers paying sub-contracted training will increase from £30,000 to £100,000. This gives employers more opportunities to outsource their training. IfATE (Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education) have recently announced a revised version of the Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship, that will come into effect on 1st April 2024 for all new starters. The revised version comes with some significant changes to the apprenticeship, which we have summarised below: ⭐ The Level 3 Diploma qualification is no longer required as part of the apprenticeship, meaning the standard now aligns with the following professional recognition: Department for Education for Full and relevant at Level 3 ⭐The EPA assessment method has been changed. The multiple Choice Questions exam has been replaced with an observation with questioning. ⭐The Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours have been rewritten, to reflect the removal of the Diploma and allow the standard to be full and relevant on its own. ⭐The funding band per learner has been increased from £6000 to £7000. At Connect2Care, we will be rebuilding our offer to reflect all of these changes, which will include new modules, updated online workshops and knowledge bites. We will also be using the funding uplift to add extra elements to our current offer, which will enhance the learners experience. Watch this space for more information in the coming months about what we are doing to ensure our Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship continues to be the best and most beneficial for our learners! 💙
