5 Proven Strategies for Staying Consistent with Your Academic Writing --> What’s your biggest writing struggle this semester? Let’s discuss in the comments below! Academic writing can be daunting, especially with teaching, research, and other demands taking up your time. But the truth is, it’s possible to make steady progress without burning out. Here are five strategies that can help you stick to your writing goals this semester: 1) Start small: Writing in short bursts—like 20-30 minutes—helps you avoid overwhelm. It’s easier to stay consistent this way. 2) Schedule it like a meeting: Treat your writing time like an important appointment. Block your calendar and minimize distractions. 3) Build accountability: Working with others, whether through a peer group or a structured writing program, can be the game changer. This is where our EMERGE Co-Writing Community comes in. 4) Celebrate small wins: Recognize your milestones, no matter how small. It’s easy to overlook progress when focused only on the end goal. 5) Consistency over intensity: Writing a little each day beats sporadic, intense sessions that leave you burnt out. Looking for more structured support? The EMERGE Co-Writing Community is designed to provide accountability, consistency, and progress. Let’s chat if you want to know more! https://buff.ly/3VqrwK8

Hey brilliant scholar! (YOUUUU!! <3) If you're a novice academic writer and have ever heard some version of the bad publication advice to, "start with the top journal in your field and then work your way down the list," STOP, DROP, AND LET'S TALK. Sure, it's possible that you might produce a first article right out of the gate that exceeds everyone's expectations and lands directly in the top journal of your field on your first try. (And if this is you, congratulations and please tell me your secrets.) But the chances are also exceedingly high that your first attempts to get published don't go like this and the top journal of your field rejects your article. Why? Here's the straight sh*t: it takes a long time to create a really great argument that's going to seriously challenge assumptions in your field and take the conversation in a new and exciting direction. And that's what the top journal in your field wants to publish. You might not be there yet, but you'll get there. It usually takes time and consistent intellectual work over many years as you keep refining your idea, tweaking it, responding to other peoples' ideas about it, and expanding its interventions. But in the meantime, you need to get some work published and out into the world ASAP (like, yesterday) for nice things like jobs, reviews, promotion, tenure, raises, and grants. If you use the scattershot method of randomly choosing where to submit your work and pick journals based solely on impact factor, prestige, bad advice, or a passing relevance to your topic (the journal's title sounded good?), you could waste YEARS submitting your work to an inappropriate journal and getting your work rejected over and over again. (And remember that you can only submit to one journal at a time!) I want better for you. (Don't you?) You need a STRATEGY. When you pick the right journal for your work early on and shape your article to that journal's interest and the conversation that it's developing, your chances of publication go way up. Here's the part where I come in. If you're an academic writer tired of spinning your wheels and getting nowhere (by which I mean receiving crappy advice that's NOT getting your work published), let's talk about how to get your work not only into a solid journal, but also read by the scholars having the conversations in which you want to participate. Publication is sometimes arbitrary, but sending your work to the right journal in the first place can dramatically improve your chances of hitting the publication bullseye without spending years of your life receiving desk rejections. Let's talk about this and any other publication-related stuff with which you're struggling. Shouldn't this be the year you get your work out in the world to advance both your career and our understandings about the world around us? Complex vocabulary, technical jargon, and dense writing styles are just a few obstacles readers may encounter. As a result, many individuals struggle to extract meaningful information from these texts, leading to frustration and a lack of confidence in their ability to engage with academic content. Reputable journals such as Nature and Science publish key breakthroughs, but only limited people can understand the content and impact. #journals #scholarly

Hii everyone! I've been inactive on this platform due to unavoidable circumstances for quite some time now. I had started offering a course on academic writing a month back, and am halfway through the same. One common challenge faced by many of the students in my batch was to restructure the abstract, as per the given word-limit (𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀), without making it sound incoherent or too convoluted. Here are a few strategies I had tried at one point of time, and which had worked out in my favor (𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲: 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁): * 𝗛𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗶𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁: It is more convenient to zero in on the aim of the paper at the very start, rather than trying to first elaborate on the general reading of the subject matter, and thereafter stating the aim of the paper. * 𝗧𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: You may try to juxtapose your primary entry point(s) along with how it/they exceed beyond the existing study in a single sentence — brevity is the key. * 𝗧𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: For shorter abstracts (150-200 words), try avoiding a paragraph division, unless you're absolutely convinced that you can make it cogent. This way, you can avoid the risk of making either of the paragraphs too short and thereby incoherent due to the restraint imposed by the word-limit. * 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 "𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁" 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 "𝗵𝗼𝘄" 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿: If you're referring to the works of certain scholars, try and merge them with the methodology that you will be using, in a single sentence. That should be all for now — happy writing! (-:
