Scaler academy has recently laid off 150 employees. While a lot of people might view it as terrible news and it definitely is for the ones laid off it might not be a bad news overall. The layoffs in scaler have happened in marketing and sales as the company gears up for a more sustainable growth over aggressively pushing customers to buy their product. We all know how piss poor scaler's marketing team has been. Agents would repeatedly make false promises of anytime refund , guaranteed placements, hide out important details and self fill emi forms. This is because scaler was offering a shit ton of incentives to them per sale. And let me not even get started on their marketing. Scalers marketing and sales team hurt both customers by pushing them to commit to a sale they might not have wanted and the company by hammering money. Now that they are gone we can expect less of these ads and intimidating sales calls . I personally had a chat with Abhimanyu the founder of scaler on LinkedIn last month where I pointed out a lot of these shady tactics and false promises their sales agents make. He told me that a lot of these are not the root values of the company but due to heavy incentives agents might be inspired to become bad actors to commit a sale. He also mentioned that they were looking into these issues and working hard to address them. Scaler is probably the biggest edtech in India today. Let's hope this might be a positive step for the company
