In my 10 years working in the film and advertising industries, I've come to realize that the quality of a script isn't determined by whether it's 'good' or 'bad', but rather by its ability to resonate with its intended audience. A script's success lies in its capacity to effectively convey its motive or message, eliciting the desired response from viewers. Regardless of technical prowess, what truly matters is whether the story connects with its audience on an emotional or intellectual level. A few months back I saw 4 of my TVCs run on air, made me reflect on what I learnt and unlearnt. Here are some lessons I learnt along the way, might help you during your first ad shoot! 𝟭. 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀: Rather than going for the picture perfect look, focus on being real and relatable 𝟮. 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝗶𝘁: Yes, babies are cute, yes we love the environment, yes we are all a little more righteous in Ramadan, but don't force-fit purpose, cuteness and morality. 𝟯. 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗹 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺: Ensure your message has soul - a meaningful story rather than an over the top rap song or extravagant set. 𝟰. 𝗜𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘆 𝗶𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁! Don't take everyone's feedback, just listen to your target audience (not your heart) 𝟱. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘆, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹. Let the experts drive. Don't micromanage creatives and artists, trust your inputs (briefs) and trust the experts. A small example is going for directors your creative is comfortable with, they know what they are doing.
