#ICYMI - Our President and Chief Executive Officer, Michael Mutterer, RN, MA, LCPC, CADC, LNHA, had an insightful conversation with Scott Slocum yesterday morning on 1340 WJOL radio's "Slocum in the Morning."
"We're really focused on quality and patient safety. That's clearly #1 for us," said Michael. "But (we're) also looking at access, we know that we've got to continue to improve our access in not only our Emergency Department, but really all areas of access for healthcare are important. We want to make it as easy as possible to access healthcare, access our physicians, and access our Silver Cross brand."
Tune in get to know more about Michael and hear the great things in store for Silver Cross Hospital! https://lnkd.in/gQ74wxby
The The Leapfrog Group Hospital and ASC Surveys are now open! More than 2,100 hospitals submitted a Survey in 2023, accounting for 73% of inpatient beds across the country. The Kentuckiana Health Collaborative, and communities across Kentucky, applaud the 71% of Kentucky hospitals that participated last year for their dedication to quality and transparency.
Public reporting is crucial to patient safety and greater transparency in health care, and Leapfrog is dedicated to collecting, analyzing and disseminating data to inform value-based purchasing and improved decision-making. Check out these links for more information:

Based on Advisory Board figures, #CommunityParamedicine PROGRAMS should be able to EARN the average hospital ~$19,400,000 with just 5% improvement. That's on average. The spread is enormous: from $300,000 to $195M. How much is YOUR service getting paid to improve hospital systems' top- and bottom- lines? Hit me at [email protected] or Art Groux at [email protected] ...let's figure it out and get you paid.
Thank you to Rachel Woods, Eliza Dailey and Colleen W.. David Porter, your colleagues are all kinds of circling the CP/MIH conversation, but without actually mentioning "Community Paramedicine" or "ambulances."
Here's the magic, though, right from the transcript: "You can solve this leakage point by improving your wait times, offering care navigation services...I think a potentially untapped opportunity here is tighter patient care navigation." This is GOLD FROM HEAVEN for CP/MIH programs, but you have to be able to prove your contribution. Our team will be glad to show you how to do that, from both strategic-tactical and data perspectives.

Matthew Pall and Reuben Farnsworth, I can't help think of your teams and how central they have become to the broader health conversation in your respective communities! https://lnkd.in/g7anjJrQAnna Thorpe, Christopher Martin, Tom Mitchell: This aligns with your overlapping vision for North Carolina's EMS ecosystem....and I recall sparks of care navigation success at the agency that Patrick Ciardullo is now running up in Connecticut.
(The National Association of Mobile Integrated Healthcare Providers and International Roundtable on Community Paramedicine - IRCP should be talking about this. It's fast-acting fuel for financial growth and sustainability. Scott Willits, I have nothing but faith in you, my brother. Bring it home...)

Trust: The Secret Ingredient to Elevating Your Hospital’s Reputation
In the hospitals trust is everything. When patients choose a hospital, they are not just looking for medical expertise; they are seeking a place where they feel safe, understood, and cared for.
Here’s why trust building is crucial for your hospital's reputation:
Patient Confidence: Trust leads to confidence. When patients trust your hospital, they feel more secure in their treatment, which directly impacts their overall experience and satisfaction.
Word-of-Mouth Referrals: A trusted hospital is a recommended hospital. Patients are more likely to refer friends and family to a healthcare facility they trust, which naturally enhances your reputation in the community.
Stronger Patient Relationships: Trust fosters long-term relationships. Patients who trust your hospital are more likely to return for future care, helping you build a loyal patient base.
Crisis Resilience: In times of crisis or uncertainty, a hospital that has built trust can navigate challenges more effectively. Patients and the community will stand by you, knowing you have their best interests at heart.
Building a Culture of Excellence: Trust is not just external; it’s internal too. When your staff trusts in the hospital's mission and values, it creates a culture of excellence that permeates every aspect of care.
Building trust is not a one-time effort; it’s a continuous process that requires dedication, transparency, and a genuine commitment to patient care.
As we move forward in this series, let’s explore how trust can be the cornerstone of a thriving and reputable healthcare institution.

"Even as we are developing the concept of how we want to design care within the hospital, we are already starting to talk about ‘How do we get people not to utilise the hospital,’ which is a bit of a strange idea." – Dr Nicholas Chew, Chairman, Medical Board
Our Model of Care is key to our mission of keeping residents well and in good health. It extends beyond #WHCampus, collaborating with General Practitioners and healthcare partners in the community to boost preventive care and better manage long-term illnesses. This integrated approach strives to provide support at every stage — pre-hospitalisation, hospitalisation, and integrated and continuing care; it aims to address healthcare challenges driven by changing needs and rising costs, all while ensuring seamless, holistic care throughout a patient’s journey.

Reading #MedicalNihilism by Jacob Stegenga in my opinion is essential for those of us passionate about providing the best possible care. As healthcare professionals, and hospital leaders we strive to base our decisions on solid evidence and deliver effective, compassionate treatments and patient care to our patients. Stegenga’s book is a reminder to approach this goal with humility and a critical eye.
Three of my key takeaways:
1. Don’t overestimate Effectiveness.
2. Bias in Research: Strife for transparency and critical evaluation of evidence.
3. Conservatism: we sometimes have to emphasize the importance of “less is more” in patient care.
Reading this book reminds me that humility is essential in healthcare; even with the best intentions, we must constantly reevaluate our practices to ensure we are truly serving the best interests of our patients.
Congrats on the recognition! 🎉 Excited to see the continued growth and care in 2025! 👏
