The holiday season is often a time of community and gatherings. For some, these gatherings can spark conversations about contentious conversations about beliefs, politics, or personal viewpoints. It’s vital to practice media literacy to approach these conversations with empathy. Here are some ways to approach such conversations: - Be Prepared to Spot Misinformation - Ask Thoughtful Questions - Focus on Common Ground - Share Media and News Sources For more media literacy resources, check out NAMLE: https://lnkd.in/eBW5C55Z

Navigating election media with family can be challenging, but incredibly important. Here are some ways to navigate the news in an election season together: Focusing on Facts: Encourage each other to look up reputable sources and fact-check information. Having a shared foundation of verified facts can make conversations more informed. Take Consumption Breaks: We live in a media-saturated world, and taking breaks is important. Stay Curious and Open-Minded: Remember that perspectives evolve. By staying open to learning from each other, we can grow together and appreciate the diversity of thought, whether it be in our conversations or the media we consume. It’s a powerful time to be informed and engaged, and NAMLE provides resources for those hoping to prioritize media literacy education this election cycle: https://lnkd.in/eBW5C55Z #ElectionDay #MediaLiteracy #Education

There is a high responsibility that we have, as media, as interpreters, as advertisers, that we have a level of consciousness over what we disseminate, and thus also what we consume as consumers when we consume. Though there are big matters in small samples, there are also big samples with small matter. This issue became more prominent as the 1960s came along. We are in a place of delusion, because advertisers have been carelessly steering their ships along, where there has been so much less of a focus on creativity, but rather on some validation of something negative for the sake of it being something to talk about or do—when in reality, we are trying so hard to untangle what has already been done throughout the generations. We are in the work of inspiring people, and we need to reinforce inspiration among us—again, not as a matter of dogma or an absolute, but as a simple principle which I will enumerate momentarily. As I’ve already stated, it isn’t wise to try to tell someone what or who to be, but it IS wise to create opportunities for people to do things and you will find an increase in public relations. Get the spiderwebs out of the parks, start reinforcing standards of keeping the communities clean—and being clean in general. To jab at who may be contributing to this issue the most aggressively is useful where it may be, but what also must be reinforced is our capacity as animals. No matter how much perfume, or how many showers, or oils and lotions, we are animals, and we smell and we perspire and we do what we are here to do.
