⚖️ Fractional Marketing vs. Freelancing: What's the Difference? "Aren’t you just a freelancer?" - I get this question a lot. Let me explain why they're completely different. Think of it this way: ⚽ A freelancer is like a skilled player brought in for specific matches. They perform their role, score some goals, and move to the next game. Their success? Individual performance stats. 🏆 A fractional marketer? We're more like the team manager. We develop the strategy, coordinate the team, plan the season, and drive the club's success. We're committed to the whole season. 💼 A Freelancer's Reality: ➡️Juggles 8-10 different projects ➡️Writes social media posts, crafts email campaigns, designs materials ➡️Reports task completion, moves to the next 🎯 A Fractional Marketer's World: ✅Partners with 2-3 companies over the long term ✅Builds marketing strategies, manages budgets, leads teams ✅Reports directly to the CEO, with accountability for results Here's what this means in practice: 📊 Daily Impact ➡️ Freelancer: “Social media calendar is ready”, “Newsletter designed and sent” ✅ Fractional Marketer: “Lead generation strategy implemented”, “Campaign ROI increased by 60” 🤝 Business Relationships ➡️Freelancer: Task-based, short-term, following existing guideline ✅Fractional Marketer: Strategic, long-term, proactive in driving business growth. It's not about better or worse - it's about different games entirely. Freelancers master the sprint, while fractional marketers run the marathon. ⚡ Ready to Switch from Sprints to Marathons? At GotoMarketers, we're looking for marketers ready to create lasting impact. 🤖 Freelance. Real Estate. Proposal ⬇ - If you take a look at our Instagram page, is that the kind of content you would be able to create? -Thank you for reaching out to me. I've seen both of your Instagram pages, and it looks like you're just starting to develop them. I can create pictures, text, and video content. While I can use free Canva pictures for general posts, I'll need real photos and videos for specific locations. Does this fit your needs? (Here, I want to mention that their pages only had a few generic pictures from Canva with unspecific text and no hashtags. Also, I expected the content to be in English, but it was in another language.) - Yes, our partners' page is very new, and I want to start strong with our content. Do you have experience in creating social media posts for real estate? (At this moment, it's really important for them and for me. I don't have specific experience in real estate social media, but I do have experience in email creation and automation in this field. In marketing, you can transition between different industries, and it's not a problem to dive in and understand the specifics needed to do the job well. However, many clients want you with the specific experience in their market to save time and get to work immediately.) - I have experience working as an email manager in the real estate field, where I created newsletter templates and set up email automation for contacts. Additionally, I have worked in social media for B2B cosmetics and the FMCG market (food). If you'd like, we can start with a test task to see how we can collaborate effectively. (I want this project. It's interesting, it's a new field for me, and I have time for it. How can I ensure the client that they can give me a shot? I propose a test task.) ⚠ How do you feel about this approach? If you were the client, would this work for you with a new freelancer? Or if you were the freelancer, how would you start to work with new, hesitant clients? I would appreciate your thoughts and sharing your experience. 👉 In the next post, I will continue this story and tell you about the client's reaction. Don’t miss it; maybe my experience will help you in your work, regardless of which side you're on. #OlenaFreelanceTips #freelance #workchallenge #shareexperience

Why I Gave Up My Successful Agency: what I learned and what I think's coming. I left the police in April 2015 and started a freelance marketing career. Within days, I'd replaced my police salary. Within months, I had my office premises, employed staff, and paid freelancers. My day was 'school run, gym, sauna, start work at 11 am and finish at 3 pm for a final school run, nap and then some emails/ admin'. But I had a huge knowledge gap. I had yet to learn how big agencies worked. What did they do differently? Were they better? For this reason, and a few others, I gave up my own highly profitable agency to work for others. A lot has gone on since then, and I'm a far better marketer and SEO than ever. But here's my advice for anyone, whether freelance, running a boutique agency, or working at a large one. 1. It takes enormous discipline to work freelance. There is a myth that your time is your own as a freelancer. Yes, you have freedom, but then people will buy your time (however you price things), and you must get the job done. 2. Pipeline is everything. It doesn't matter where you work. The pipeline of leads matters more than anything else. Being able to generate leads honestly and ethically is powerful. Knowing how to replicate this is a superpower. 3. SEO Agencies are like being on a bus. People are on a journey in their careers. They get on and off various agency buses on their journey. Agency owners drive the bus. Going freelance is the decision to buy yourself a car. 4. Don't compare yourself to anyone. I used to compare myself to another agency years ago. They looked amazing. They hired, grew, and had an office renovation that made everyone go 'ooooooh'. They went bankrupt. Freelancer or agency, the grass can look greener over the fence, but you don't know what's happening under the surface. You can focus on your own lawn. It'll make you happier. 5. Covid changed everything. The current agency scene is not usual. Covid caused a substantial economic boost for digital and SEO agencies. Either during or when lockdowns ended. This was caused by a recognition that digital mattered, and also, many businesses had cash injections to spend. The cost of living crisis, Google updates and economic downturn have hit digital marketers/ SEOs hard. You are at the end of a cycle of growth and shrinkage. 2025 will be a year when things will return to normal (unless we have a global war). 6. AI Will Change Marketing. AI tools will make doing everything easier and faster. Results should come faster, especially in SEO. AI agents will be the future agency workforce. Humans will build relationships with clients. 7. SEO and digital agencies will grow through brand marketing, not sales teams. Today, most agencies are interchangeable. There is little actual difference. With AI doing much of the work, agencies will win through their distinctive brands. Being distinctive will be the key. Food for thought.

The worst marketing pitfall for freelancers: - Copy competitors' content with no direction - Launch new profile without any clear strategy - Posting only boring technical content - Over-analyze each post's performance, then try a new hack In short, run in all directions. The biggest marketing pitfall is operating without a clear strategy. Or even worse when you're trying to have multiple, often contradictory, strategic paths at the same time. Advance, retreat, lose direction, then restart the entire process. An unclear strategy is devastating for your solopreneur morale: - Zero prediction → "Will I have clients in 6 months?" - Decision Paralysis → "What’s my next move?" - Poor results → "CTO’s / Product Owners are not interested" From your target client’s perspective, it's even worse. - "I don't get what he does, it's always changing" - “His expertise seems disorganized; compared to other specialists we have worked with” If you change your content, profile, or headline all the time, your target clients won't be able to remember you. You'll remain an unclear background noise. Good news: There is a clear roadmap to set up a direction. 1. Marketing Strategy: The foundation You need to define and iterate over the big 3 avatars (Target Client Avatar, Competition Avatar, Avatar of You). They will be your leading light to make all your decisions. 2. Marketing System: Plan your efforts Before trying to publish content, launch your website or update your profile, 'think systems' first. You need to install a robust roadmap to organize your marketing actions. For freelance beginners use a Notion task tracker or leverage our beginner's guide (link in comments). 3. Marketing Operations: Reach your target client Becoming 'the go-to expert' in your target clients’ mind is a game of repetition. You need to send messages and post your content every week. Start small and create a schedule that’s easy to follow. Then do more once you become faster. 4. Marketing Analytics: Throw out what doesn’t work, keep the rest. Don’t think a handful of posts or DM responses are sufficient to update your strategy. Check your post analytics after 15–20 posts. Analyze your DMs in batches of 50. If it ain't broke, keep it. But update what needs fixing. Don’t run in all directions. Commit. Execute. Win. 💯 — If you’re a senior dev with 8+ years of experience and want to learn how to leverage LinkedIn to get clients, download our free client acquisition guide. Link in the comments:
