What can you give your team this year? I would argue that one of the biggest gifts that you can give your team is a clear and compelling purpose to accomplish. What are your thoughts? How do you make sure your purpose is defined well?

In the passionate pursuit of our careers, we all experience moments where our vision clashes with the business reality. We champion an idea with conviction, but the final decision goes another way. Frustration sets in – did we waste our time? Did our effort mean nothing? Here's the truth: breakdowns often precede breakthroughs. Sometimes, a seemingly rejected idea becomes the seed for future innovation. It may not be the right time, the right resources, or the right market fit. But the passion we poured into it keeps the conversation alive. The breakdown, the initial "no," can be the catalyst for a future "ah-ha" moment. Marking a New Chapter: A Personal and Professional Update Over the years, I’ve come to deeply appreciate that growth—whether personal or professional—requires transformation. A few months ago, I quietly made a personal change that some of you may have already noticed. Today, I want to officially share it: I’ve changed my name to Melle Lieuwes. This decision wasn’t made lightly, nor was it rooted in practicality. Instead, it stems from an intuitive sense of closure and renewal. The name Melle Lieuwes carries both personal significance and historical resonance. It’s the name of my great-great-great-grandfather, a man from Fryslân in the north of the Netherlands. In the 17th century, before family names became fixed by law under Napoleon, children’s surnames often reflected their father’s first name, with the suffix -s meaning “son of.” Lieuwes, back then, meant “son of Lieuwe.” In choosing this name, I feel connected to the generations that came before me and to the region where I grew up. It’s also a reminder of resilience and continuity—qualities I’ve relied on as I’ve navigated my own journey of transformation. While this change is deeply personal, it also reflects a broader truth that resonates at Eyra: the importance of creating space for individuality and authenticity. We believe that the best ideas—and the best work—emerge when people are empowered to be themselves. My name change symbolizes that belief. Lastly, if there’s one thought that I hope will resonate with you, it’s this: it’s okay to embrace who you are, to make bold changes when needed, and to let go of what no longer serves you.
