A Foul Sewage Treatment Works in Oxfordshire was in the news this week for failing to comply with its EA permit in relation to storm overflows, and the impact this was having on proposed developments in the area. One of the most significant factors in the capacity challenges for foul drainage infrastructure is combined systems, or surface water discharging to foul systems. This seems to be commonplace in the news, and demonstrates the importance of separate surface and foul drainage systems, and or meaningful sustainable drainage systems (#SuDS), which ironically enough is mostly achieved through….. new development! Rainwater Harvesting systems like the one Mayer Brown took from Feasibility through to Implementation at Clear Lake could be the future! https://lnkd.in/ej67HXbb

Soil testing in Queensland, particularly for construction projects, plays a critical role given the state’s unique soil compositions and weather patterns. Soil conditions can vary widely—from sandy coastal soils to heavier clay-rich soil types inland—impacting everything from building foundations to pavement durability. This is where CQ Soil Testing's expertise shines, especially in pavement investigations, which are essential for assessing the strength and suitability of soil for supporting roads and other structures. One interesting challenge in Queensland is the high variability in soil moisture due to the subtropical climate, which can lead to expansive clay soils shrinking and swelling with changing moisture levels. This affects both construction projects and long-term maintenance, making soil testing essential for ensuring structural stability and minimising future repairs. Foundation issues are not exclusive to older homes. Factors such as soil movement, construction methods, and environmental changes can contribute to these problems in older and newer homes. Regular inspections are important for all homes to catch potential issues early on. #PierKingFoundationRepair #FoundationRepairExperts #StructuralRepair #FoundationLeveling #EngineerConsultants

🚧 The Hidden Dangers of Backfilled Construction Sites 🚧 When embarking on a construction project, choosing the right land is crucial. Backfilled land, although common, can pose significant risks if not properly managed. What is Backfilled Land? Backfilled land refers to sites where the original soil has been replaced or filled with other materials, often after excavation or to level uneven ground. The Risks: 1. Unstable Foundation: Improperly compacted backfill can lead to uneven settling, causing structural issues. 2. Water Drainage Problems: Backfilled soil often has poor drainage, increasing the risk of water damage and erosion. 3. Soil Contamination: Fill material may contain contaminants, posing health hazards and affecting vegetation. How to Mitigate These Risks: • Professional Soil Testing: Ensure comprehensive soil tests to assess stability and contamination. • Quality Fill Materials: Use high-quality, clean fill materials to minimize contamination. • Proper Compaction: Employ proper compaction techniques to ensure a stable foundation. Stay Safe, Build Smart! 🏗️🔍 #RealEstate #ConstructionSafety #BackfilledLand #MSLHomes #NairobiRealEstate

#FunFactFriday - Did you know? 💡 Pervious concrete is helping Kentucky manage stormwater more effectively? This innovative material reduces flooding, recharges groundwater, and improves water quality by allowing rainwater to seep through. Cities like Lexington and institutions like the University of Kentucky are leading the way in sustainable construction with pervious concrete. What is Pervious Concrete? Pervious concrete is a special type of concrete with a high porosity that allows water to pass through it, thereby reducing runoff and promoting groundwater recharge. It is particularly useful in urban areas where impermeable surfaces can lead to significant stormwater management challenges. #Concrete #Kentucky #Sustainability #StormwaterManagement #InnovativeConstruction #EnvironmentalImpact #ConcreteLastsALifetime
