Beacon Short Courses are half or full day work readiness programs, delivered in schools or at a host business. These courses are designed to boost employability skills and build real-life connections to the world of work for young people in Years 7-12. We invite industry and community volunteers to join these programs and share their career journey with the students. Students connect with the volunteers and gain a better understanding of what the world of work truly looks like. This provides real insights for students to realise the different types of employment opportunities available to them and what the day-to-day of those opportunities actually means. Working in early careers can be lonely. Often you may be the only person in your organisation trying to do outreach It’s probably on top of or alongside something else you do People around you don’t always get it so the sounding board to sense what is right is missing I am blessed to be a small and mighty team but I still know it can be lonely. And that is why I like this approach from CEC to employer standards. It doesn’t take long but it will tell you your strengths and give you some thoughts where to focus your energy. 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 Gratitude doesn’t fully capture the pride I feel in being part of the “Education to Employment” (E2E) program in Utah—a program focused on strengthening our community’s economic stability by building a bridge between young adults facing unique challenges and real-world opportunities. Partnering with the Department of Workforce Services, we guide participants through a structured six-week program, giving them the skills, mentorship, and hands-on training they need to enter the workforce and develop meaningful careers.  Building on our success in Utah, we’re now expanding programs like E2E into other states, proving that this model can work on a broader scale. But this program is more than just a contract; it's a mission. It resonates with me deeply, especially as I think of my son, Jaxon, and his own journey navigating a minor disability. Knowing we’re making a difference for people with similar challenges is truly rewarding.
