The Power Of A Strong Book Cover Blurb Via BookBaby: https://lnkd.in/dEHU7sb3. "From enticing teasers to critical affirmation, a book cover blurb can persuade readers to check out and buy your book and can serve to promote your title and your author platform for years to come. There are several reasons why most traditionally published novels you pick up have a blurb prominently featured on the front or back cover. The addition of a strong book cover blurb — an endorsement by a person of note (a well-known author or expert) or an excerpt from a professional book review — immediately establishes a perceived level of quality and value. If Stephen King or John Grisham liked this novel enough to endorse it, chances are good you’ll love it too, right? The same goes for a starred review in Publishers Weekly, Kirkus, or any publication or website of note. Not every release gets starred reviews, so it stands to reason that the novel with the glowing excerpt on the cover must be an extraordinary read. Teaser: Solomon Bull book cover blurbA strong book cover blurb can serve as a teaser for potential readers, giving them a little taste of what’s in store if they purchase the novel. Clayton Lindemuth’s Solomon Bull is a perfect example of a self-published novel that utilizes a blurb masterfully. The copy on the cover — an excerpt from a BlueInk review — succeeds in both establishing quality and piquing reader interest. “A virile tale about a tough-as-nails Blackfoot Indian… a roaming badass… a well-crafted, solid thriller.” And if I’m being completely honest, book covers with blurbs just look better, they look more polished and professional. A novel without a blurb on the front or back cover seems naked to me — unfinished." 📚 Looking to land your book in the hands of a literary agent? Here's a tip hotter than fresh coffee on a Monday morning: Find those comparable book titles! 🚀 Think of it like finding your book's soulmates. Agents want to know where your masterpiece fits in the literary landscape, so show them the neighborhood it belongs to! But hey, don't trip on the way there. Here are some "gotchas" to watch out for: Too Popular: Sure, "Harry Potter" may be the epitome of magic, but if your book is "Harry Potter with a twist," it might raise some eyebrows. Originality is key, folks! Too Obscure: On the flip side, if your comps are from the ancient scrolls of literature, agents might struggle to see the relevance. Stay current and relatable! Too Different: While "Fifty Shades of Grey" might be steamy, if your book is more of a cozy mystery, the comparison might fizzle out faster than a damp firecracker. Keep it in the same genre! Too Stretchy: Stretching the truth? Not in your book! Be honest and accurate about your comps, or you might end up with a mismatched pair. Remember, finding the perfect book soulmates can lead to a match made in literary heaven. So, grab your detective hat and get sleuthing! I've been querying some agents lately and thought these tips might come in handy for others... #WritingCommunity #AuthorLife #PitchingTips #QueryingAgents #BookPitching101 #PitchingPro #LiteraryMatchmaker #CompingLikeABoss

Another Review For Resistance: Chaos-Tol's Bane, Book 1 (Chaos - Tol's Bane) Is In Huge thanks to Aaron Strock for his review of Resistance: Chaos-Tol's Bane, Book 1 (Chaos - Tol's Bane) Here's what he had to say: Resistance, plays to the familiar theme of hidden identities as a central driver of the story. "Perrin" & "Bren" raised by their "Gram" in the mountain town live simply, raising their flock and helping to find healing Herbs for Gram. Under the control of invaders known as Brocken, life is very controlled & people are not allowed freedoms for fear the people will form a stronger resistance than the existing one. The story quickly changes direction & some rather semi easy- to - guess reveals occur, that open up the story further. Some interesting but light magic, with elevs and others help stabilize this epic fantasy. Resistance is a solid addition to the fantasy genre, offering a gripping narrative and relatable characters that keep readers invested from start to finish. Fans of fast-paced, character-driven stories will find much to enjoy in Keeley’s novel, as it balances action with emotional depth and thought-provoking themes. Thanks for the kind words, Aaron! As an author, you want your book to stand out in a crowded market. When self-publishing on online bookstores like Amazon and Barnes & Noble, it's tempting to categorize your book in popular genres like Romance, Thriller, or Science Fiction. However, this might not be the best strategy. Why avoid high-traffic categories? 1. Competition: With millions of books in these categories, your book can easily get lost in the noise. 2. Saturation: Popular genres are often dominated by established authors and bestsellers, making it harder for new voices to break through. 3. Discovery: With so many books to choose from, readers may overlook your book in favor of more familiar names or covers. Alternative approach: 👉 Niche down: Identify smaller, more specific categories that align with your book's unique themes, genres, or topics. This increases your visibility and appeal to targeted readers. 👉 Use keywords: Strategically incorporate relevant keywords in your book's metadata, such as title, subtitle, and description, to improve discoverability. 👉 Build your author platform: Establish an online presence through your website, social media, and email list to connect with potential readers and promote your work. Sales of print books are slowly improving, thanks in major part to skyrocketing interest in adult fantasy novels. In the first half of 2024, fantasy sales increased 85.2% over the same period in 2023. Science fiction, suspense/thriller, and young adult fiction also saw significant increases. A vibrant movement in the publishing industry, graphic novels (and non-fiction books) have been prolific and popular for over 10 years - and were in evidence before that. This illustrated-book approach - like a more sophisticated comic book - is a fun, intriguing, effective, consumer-friendly way to do a story or impart a message. (Of course, it helps if you're a professional artist, or can work with one!) #graphicnovels #comicbooks #illustratedbooks #illustration #everypicturetellsastory

𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐛𝐲 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫? It is such a popular saying. We use it very often. And most of the people say that do not judge a book by seeing its cover. The content inside the book might be mind blowing but the cover not so appealing 📕 Somehow, they are true. But I have quite the opposite thought about it 👀 When we visit a bookstore, we see thousands of books around us. Do we pick all the books? Do we buy all of them? 🤔 Probably not. Let us be honest. We do judge the book seeing its cover. That is why, the cover designers get the big bucks 🤑 We do not even look at some of the books which did not grab our attention successfully. We pick handful of books, read the excerpt, and decide whether to buy. Our conscious and subconscious minds are all wired with the visual appeal. Visual appearance gets more buyers. This is the same story with writers and in business too. If you are looking presentable and sound logical, people will invest in you and will trust you. PS — So, now will you still judge the book by it is cover? Share your experience. Follow Moumita Biswas for more interesting stories. #wednesdaywisdom #booklovers #personalbonding #psychology

My favourite type of book is a charming novel with lots of wordplay. My least favourite book is a nonfiction pop-productivity book that tries to widen its market so much and offend people so little that it ends up as 160 pages on nothing. My second favourite type of book is someone passionately arguing a position that is *wild* with zero regard for their market. The type where 80% of the content is entertaining nonsense but 20% makes you think quite deeply. Often the creators have loathsome opinions but that's largely the charm. I'm currently reading 'Emotional Vampires' (I picked it up on my birthday bookshop crawl). It's from 1998 and by two people who are both called Rhodes. One of them is a psychologist who is writing from the perspective of "emotional vampires are an interesting metaphor to look at certain behaviours" and the other is a novelist who is writing from perspective of "emotional vampires are REAL and have POWERS." It's great. The majority of it is wild, but lots of it has made me really rethink some relationships. Books like this don't tend to sort neatly into 2024's political divides; there are ideas/positions that look quite right-wing, and a bunch of things that one might consider very left wing, and it's interesting to see the ways that the writers connect them together.

Recently went into a bookstore and realized that the decision to purchase a book from a relatively unfamiliar author is pretty hard. You normally have very little to go off of: the brief text on the back-cover, book title, cover photo. Of course, if you have time, you can go online and read up book reviews, but don't know if a lot of people do that or would like to do that while standing in the bookstore. Or you could read a random excerpt and see if the writing hits you. what if a reader could come in -- pick up your book -- phone scan the QR at the back -- see a 30-second video of you (or someone who reads better than you) reading a fantastic excerpt from your book and option to hear you describe what the book is about in 30 seconds. you either burn the book or burn your money for it :) the idea being that hearing/seeing the author themselves, hearing a particular passage that has the heart of the book read aloud, and hearing from the author's mouth what the book is about can ground you much better in your decision to buy (or not to buy - a shopaholic once said that this is the real question instead of..)
