*A note to our community about last week's election* At Wanderful, we believe in the power of travel to foster connection, understanding, and mutual respect. Travel can open us to experiences that reveal our shared humanity and teach us to celebrate our differences. These values are the heart of our Wanderful community, where we come together to learn from one another and embrace what makes us unique. Last week’s US election results have left many of us reeling. Many of our members feel anger, fear, and uncertainty about what lies ahead, especially with an incoming administration whose agenda threatens the rights and well-being of women, immigrants, people of color, the LGBTQ+ community, and so many more. While the future remains uncertain, what we do know is this: Wanderful will continue to be a safe, inclusive space, especially for those who have been marginalized. Our commitment to you remains steadfast. Sexism, racism, ableism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination in any form have no place in our Wanderful world. We urgently demand respectful and responsible discourse, and we stand for the right to everyone’s peaceful existence and personal safety—both online and offline, including within our Wanderful community and at the WITS Creator Summit, the Bessie Awards, our trips and meetups, and every space we create together. In moments of division and uncertainty, your voice as a traveler is a force for connection and change. Your stories build awareness, inspire empathy, and bring people together. Keep using your voice, but remember: self-care is essential. This community is a place where we stand by each other, where diversity is celebrated, and where dialogue is rooted in empathy and respect. We ask each of you to help us model these values across all our spaces, knowing that our words and actions have the power to unify or divide. Let’s lead by example, together creating a world where everyone’s dignity and safety are protected. In community, The Wanderful Team

How can we make travel more welcoming for everyone? The International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA) has published the 2023 Virtual Think Tank Report, revealing key insights into LGBTQ+ tourism. LGBTQ+ travelers are eager to explore new destinations. They value safety, authenticity, and visibility in their travel experiences. The report highlights that 60% of LGBTQ+ travelers plan to travel more in the next year compared to pre-pandemic levels. Despite progress, many LGBTQ+ travelers still face safety concerns and discrimination. The report notes that 73% of LGBTQ+ travelers consider safety a top priority when choosing a destination. At Skal International, we support initiatives that promote diversity and inclusivity in tourism. Our events, like the Tourism Innovation Night in Berlin, align with these goals. Tourism businesses should create tailored, safe, and welcoming experiences for LGBTQ+ travelers. Collaboration with LGBTQ+ groups can enhance these efforts. Nearly 50% of LGBTQ+ travelers prefer destinations that actively promote inclusivity and LGBTQ+ rights. What steps can we take, in your opinion, to make travel more inclusive? Share your ideas! Hispanic Heritage Month is officially on the way, and it’s more than just a celebration—it's an invitation to learn, honor, and uplift. 🌟 #HHM2024 Let's approach it with intention and respect by keeping these do's and don'ts in mind: 👏🏽 Do Celebrate the Richness of Diversity Hispanic culture is vibrant, and diverse, and spans over 20 different countries. This is your chance to explore the beauty of our many languages, traditions, and stories. The more you learn, the more you’ll realize there’s always something new to discover! 🙅🏽♂️ Don’t Stereotype Hispanic Heritage Month isn’t about tacos and salsa dancing (though both are amazing!). Avoid reducing this vibrant culture to a handful of clichés. Authenticity comes from celebrating the full spectrum of contributions and identities. 👏🏽 Do Highlight Contributions From science and politics to art and literature, Hispanic communities have made invaluable contributions across the board. Use this month as a chance to spotlight these achievements and share stories of those who inspire you! 🙅🏽♂️ Don’t Tokenize Hispanic Heritage isn’t a “once-a-year” moment. Don’t limit your engagement to just September and October—make sure you’re celebrating and supporting the community all year long. 👏🏽 Do Create Space for Voices One of the best things you can do is lift up Hispanic voices. Whether it’s in the workplace, at events, or in personal conversations, ensure there’s space for these stories to be told and heard. 🙅🏽♂️ Don’t Generalize Hispanic identity isn’t one-size-fits-all. We come from different countries, backgrounds, and experiences. Celebrate those differences and avoid lumping everyone together. 👏🏽 Do Reflect and Take Action Use this month as a reminder to reflect on how we can all do better to support Hispanic communities. From policy changes to workplace inclusion efforts, let’s ensure that our actions go beyond words. 🙅🏽♂️ Don’t Overlook the Ongoing Challenges While it’s a month to celebrate, it’s also a time to acknowledge the hurdles Hispanic communities still face. Let’s use this moment to not only raise awareness but also to support the long-term progress we need. What’s one thing you’re doing this month to celebrate or learn more about Hispanic culture?👀 #HHM2024

World Pride headed to Africa for the first time. Promoting LGBTQIA+ and human rights in Africa is essential for fostering equality, inclusivity and social progress across the continent. Despite legal (often brought on by colonial legacies), cultural and social barriers, advocating for these rights addresses fundamental principles of dignity, respect and fairness for all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or background. LGBTQIA+ individuals in many African countries today still face discrimination, violence and legal persecution, which stifles their potential and limits societal progress and freedom of expression. By supporting LGBTQIA+ rights, communities have the potential of benefiting from a culture that values diversity and protects the rights of all citizens, creating safer and more just societies. Furthermore, promoting human rights helps strengthen democratic values, as it ensures that governments are accountable to protecting the well-being and freedoms of every individual. A focus on these rights not only advances social and economic development but also aligns with international human rights standards, enhancing Africa's role on the global stage as a champion of equality and justice. Pride events on the continent have been primarily hosted in South Africa, the first country on the continent to proactively promote LGBTQIA+ rights. The Johannesburg and Cape Town events being the largest. Cape Town’s recent securing of the hosting of World Pride in 2028 provides an opportunity not only to celebrate the success of democratic progression in South Africa but also as a platform to illuminate the needs for greater advocacy of LGBTQI+ rights on the African continent. The event is also projected to attract significant number of tourists. The incoming ‘pink dollars’ surely to make a positive economic impact on the City of Cape Town and tourism in South Africa. https://lnkd.in/dE2wjP-C
