OpenClinic (YC F24) is an EHR platform that powers digital medical clinics with sophisticated AI that handles 99% of the work, letting doctors focus purely on medical decision-making. There's little doubt that when we fast forward 5-10 years, every person with a medical symptom will start their healthcare journey by talking to a sophisticated medical AI. On the back end of those models will be a network of doctors asynchronously providing the 1% human-in-the-loop confirmation to ensure safety and legal compliance. OpenClinic is building the foundational layer for that future of healthcare. With a team that includes 3 medical doctors (who are also software engineers themselves), there's nobody better to take on this ambitious challenge head-on. Their AI assistant takes a comprehensive medical history using an empathic voice-based interface, uses sophisticated medical reasoning to narrow down likely diagnoses, and produces evidence-based treatment suggestions for each patient. Licensed doctors then review the text-based summaries of the cases their AI has gathered data for asynchronously and choose how to manage the patients. In this fashion, they're able to deliver end-to-end healthcare where AI manages 99%, and doctors do the final high-value 1%. EHRs, digital front doors, patient portals... anyone else feel like all these things are just collapsing into one? 🤔 OpenClinic (YC F24) seems poised to push the boundaries on AI-led care. But as you'll see in the comments, there are still questions about how much of the care experience they can automate. An interesting shift away from previously new age “contemporary” business models: 100% of the Y Combinator product demonstrations shown on my feed over the past 1 and a 1/2 months have been Ai startups. It’s an interesting switch from that of just last year where, from my recollection it was a much more balanced mix of companies — Ai and non Ai. Thus, my prediction is that the vast, vast majority of all new management hires over the coming decade will be: 1) Those who have mastered EQ focused consultative solution selling and service; in regulated and semi regulated industries, the differentiating factors come down to the human element (soft skills) 2) Those who have mastered capital allocation; those who can discern the most efficient ways to leverage and multiply labour through capital will be of increasing importance as business models move further towards total efficiency (as with any industrial revolution) 3) Those who have mastered the integration, management and back stop supervision of Ai programs. The new kid on the block is number 3), where Ai allows for 3 things, all of which help unlock enterprise value: - access to more accurate data and better tracking of key metrics_what is measured is improved making way for breakthroughs - more targeted product offerings proliferated by better understanding of customer sentiment and pain points_better overall experience means they should gain more value and buy more through time - more retained earnings_savings on hiring and payroll overhead. #artificialintelligence #capitallocation #clientservices #EQ

It might not sound exciting to use AI to help physicians better manage drop-down menus and scrolling in electronic medical records, but it can reduce their time spent on administration by 40%. Tech company Oracle just announced that its Clinical Digital Assistant is using multimodal generative AI to help ambulatory physicians streamline their clinical documentation.
