I am starting again. As of August, I move into a new role as 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 in our EMEA region here at Cochlear. My journey at Cochlear began three years ago, and allowed me to grow into the position I am about to start. Since day one I realized that working here means to be surrounded by colleagues with 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗱𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗿. 💛 So often, I feel I am the person in the room that needs to learn the most - and thats precisely the best place to be. 👨🎓I am deeply greatful for what I learn every day by working with senior leaders and experts, such as Alecia Lennard, Craig Sharp, Gregor Minder, and Kelvin Hawker, Lucy Woods, Paola D., Xavier ERISMANN - and SO many more. 🙏 Starting a new role is like looking up a steep mountain, knowing you will have to 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 in your career. 🏔 There is a wealth of business literature that claims to guide you through. But I realized that the 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 both for others and for me throughout my career and personal life. For me, the 𝟳 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀 from Stephen Covey are such guiding lights. Time to dig them out again, and cling to them while starting the path up the mountain. 🥾 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄! 😎 ➡️ 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦? I still vividly remember the day it was announced that I was the Valedictorian of the ALX Virtual Assistant Course cohort in 2022. I was taken aback, to say the least. It was a surreal moment that left me beaming with pride and gratitude. Giving the valedictory speech to hundreds of young African VA graduate was so humbling with a miss feeling of joy and gratitude to God. Looking back, it's clear that my dedication and hard work paid off. My journey to becoming Valedictorian was paved with consistent effort and a willingness to go above and beyond. I made it a point to be extremely active on the Slack platform, where I engaged with my peers, offered support, and provided guidance whenever needed. I responded to countless questions, shared resources, and offered words of encouragement. My commitment to excellence was evident in my submissions, which were always completed on time and to the highest standards possible. I strived for perfection in every milestone, pouring my heart and soul into each task. The result? I achieved the highest grades possible, a testament to my unwavering dedication. Becoming Valedictorian was not just a personal achievement but also a reflection of the supportive community that ALX fosters. The Virtual Assistant Course taught me the value of collaboration, the importance of seeking help when needed, and the power of community-driven learning. My experience serves as a reminder that success is within reach when we combine hard work, determination, and a willingness to support one another. 15 years ago never did I imagine a day where I would get a chance to ( actually ) serve as a speaker in sales conferences I did hope for it and worked towards it but it sure seemed like an unachievable goal It’s one of those things where even if you’d offer to speak for free - likelihood of being given the opportunity was close to none cos expectations of speakers are high and organizers wanted a strong track record And back then I had none to show So all I could do during my tenure in sales back in medical companies was to seize opportunities to present in bigger crowds and even volunteer to Emcee events So how did I get this opportunity? We’d have to go afew steps back and wouldn’t believe it even if I told you One October evening in 2022, I made a prayer to Jesus that went something like this “ It’s not fair that you gave me a desire to impact lives through speaking but didn’t give me the opportunity - not fair at all … “ Interestingly - I started imagining myself speaking to large crowds after and would literally close my eyes and deliver a 10mins speech ( when my wife wasn’t looking - Paiseh la 😆 ) Unexpected - I received an email from MDRT global team during November / December that I had been nominated as a potential main stage speaker but had to submit videos of my past work to be evaluated Among afew hundred entries, I was selected to be one of 12 main stage speakers and was given the privilege of closing day 1’s main stage segment Now you may think that it is the product of self actualization or law of attraction but no It’s not It can only be Jesus cos I know myself and I know that the opportunity was undeserving To add to that, At the MDRT global stage - I received the unexpected gift of a standing ovation First time my life - didn’t know how to respond except to say thank you ( Many times .. haha ) more importantly - it was evident that isomeone was impacted that day And that day lead to this opportunity to speak at this amazing APFinSA Day conference coming in July 2024 in Hong Kong Really excited to serve again at this capacity ( 3,000 + delegates ) and will work hard to serve them well Foot note : There are many theories to success out there and often they are tagged to a demand of effort from you to make it happen In reality, we are weak and many of those theories often lead to fustration True success is when you can have what you want while being at rest and also keep what’s important to you So far - I’ve only found that in Jesus
