Hello Roger Montti, I have read your article, "Google's Indifference To Site Publishers Explained." You have put your idea on why Google becomes indifferent to sites. You also mentioned the way to attract Google, which is through the "user experience." The important line for me is, "Google's response for the past month is that they're investigating how to improve." Does it mean that when we get feedback from the Search Console, we should address them ASAP? You always stress "user experience." I have read this idea in your many articles. As an article writer, writing an article is easy, but writing an article with the best user experience is too hard.

This Is The Change That Is Needed Google's algorithms are literally created to provide a good user experience and is evaluated to that standard. From Google's perspective the algorithm is working if user satisfaction metrics say it's working, wholly indifferent of the publisher's viewpoint as search traffic diminishes with each new Google Search Feature. The disconnect in how Google measures success and the indifference to publishers is built into Google Search. Lately, Google search results have been a topic of discussion for many. It’s true, Google is providing less results per search, than they ever have. The current average is 400 down from 1,000. These conversation’s usually result in a sharing of ideas to provoke Google to provide more results. I once contributed to a conversation, saying to search in incognito mode. It’s true, doing so does provide a more varied list of search results but this option can be inconsistent and doesn't solve the problem. Operators however, the unsung heroes of Google search, surely can.   Instead of trying to manipulate Google to provide more results, it seems time might be better spent focusing on making the results Google does provide, as tailor made to the user's needs, as possible. When receiving 1,000 results, users could still find what they were looking for, most of the time. Users now have 60% less to work with. 😅 So, Google, you have decided to mess with my workflow again! Google hides search results count... I know it's not the best tool, and not many people have used or noticed it. But it's an interesting product design decision that makes me wonder why the choice was made. 🤔 "Google Search now has made it harder to find the number of search results for a search query. Instead of it being displayed under the search bar, at the top of the search results, now you need to click on the “tools” button to reveal the results count number." via Search Engine Journal

Google is pretty good at recognising what we're searching for, wouldn't you agree? [Despite the typos, blatant disregard for grammar rules and other liberties we take for granted. 🙈] The search giant spends an extensive amount of resources in developing its algorithm so it can answer an estimated 8.5 billion queries on any given day. Crazy, right? But at the heart of the mystery that surrounds the inner workings of the algorithm are 5 elements that make Google Search tick. #1 on this list is intent. Or the meaning of your query. Google spent 5 years developing a system that focuses on the meaning of your search whilst sidelining challenges around it. As an example, in your search, you may use the term 'change laptop brightness' but manufacturers and other suppliers use 'adjust laptop brightness' to provide a plausible answer to the question. The algorithm is smart enough to detect this difference (or in this case, similarity in intent) and respond accordingly. Take this a step further and you'll notice that the system tries to understand what type of information you are looking for - whether it's long form content, pictures or a video tutorial and return results in alignment with that request. It doesn't stop there - when you're typing your query, Google also looks at whether your search has a 'local' intent. ie: when you type 'pizza', it shows you trending places in your locality. It truly is mind boggling - the pace at which the algorithm is evolving and the science that goes behind in developing a system so sophisticated..all so we can find the answers to our questions within seconds. A business that invests in digital marketing should recognise the importance of intent and the role it plays in ranking on search engines.
