2024 is the 10th birthday of one of the most important unbuilt projects of the new millennium. With a staggering 1,715 entries from every corner of the globe, the Guggenheim Helsinki #competition not only captured the imagination of the architectural community but also set a new benchmark for #creativity and engagement in our field. Why do architectural competitions matter? They're the battlegrounds where the future image of our cities is shaped and contested. They're where daring #ideas meet practical challenges, and where the architectural #visions of tomorrow first take flight. Let's zoom out on a "Top 5": ◽ Centre Pompidou - broke all the rules, turning the idea of a museum inside out. ◽ Sydney Opera House - dared to dream big, becoming a national icon and a masterpiece of modern architecture. ◽ High-Line - transformed an abandoned rail line into New York's favorite park, redefining urban regeneration. ◽ Guggenheim Bilbao - showed us the power of a single building to change the fate of an entire city. ◽ Tokyo International Forum - a marvel of steel and glass, set new standards for public spaces. Each of these projects started with a simple call for entries, much like the Guggenheim Helsinki competition. This is where creativity meets opportunity, where every sketch and model has the potential to redefine our cities and how we experience them. #Architecture is not just about buildings; it's about visions, about community, and about the bold steps we take toward the #future. Swipe for a few original drawings! 💎 #Architecture #Innovation #GuggenheimHelsinki #UrbanDesign #FutureCities #DesignCompetition #ArchitecturalVision

Use your senses. I believe that architecture has the power to evoke emotions or amazement, to soothe or foster connection. Space can suggest various activities with different reactions. This reverberating relationship underscores the lasting effect that the environment around us has in different circumstances. Whether at home, at work, or at school, we are almost always within architectural spaces. I'd like to point out an exhibition that I've read a lot about and hope to visit soon: Aware, an exhibition organized by the Danish Architecture Center and designed by 3XN GXN, showcases fundamental concepts of space: not just bricks, concrete, or steel, but relationships between bodies and space, between spatial atmospheres and human emotions. The exhibition encourages exploration and reflection on your experience of space, engaging your senses and delving into the behavioral principles of architecture and their transformative potential. Organizers explain that from the moment you enter the exhibition, you will be immersed in six large installations designed to awaken your senses, and the experience is enriched by a sound universe created by the Mesmer trio and the lighting design of Jesper Kongshaug. 🙌 What’s your take? # 309 EVENTS, Denmark 👉 More content on our website and subscribe to the weekly newsletter; the link to the featured news is in the first comment below. 🎯 If you want to learn more about our transformative approach to generating growth (yes, what we call innovation marketing!), feel free to write me privately. The Future of Art, Design & Architecture 🌿 So many exciting trends are emerging across the creative industries : from circular design in architecture to AI-driven creativity, we're seeing a shift towards sustainability, adaptability, and advanced technology integration. In my latest blog post, I explore 𝐤𝐞𝐲 2025 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬: 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧: Buildings like the Kloboucká lesní Headquarters show how architecture can evolve rather than be demolished, embracing a future where structures are adaptive and sustainable. 𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐭 & 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧: What role will AI play in shaping creativity next year? Refik Anadol, has just announced plans to open the world’s first AI art museum in Los Angeles on 2025. The museum, named DATALAND, promises to be a groundbreaking space dedicated to AI-generated art and immersive data-driven experiences. 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦: How cities are becoming more eco-conscious with every new project. One noteworthy project is One Central Park in Sydney, Australia, designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel and completed recently. It incorporates vertical gardens and an innovative heliostat (mirrored panels) that reflect sunlight into shaded parts of the building, reducing energy consumption and enhancing natural light. These trends aren’t just shaping spaces—they’re shaping the way we live. https://lnkd.in/dG52ba_A

At the recent IAAPA Expo Europe Conference, I presented the delicate balance between honoring heritage and embracing progress. I started to take a look at Notre Dame de #Paris as an example. After the devastating fire, architects & designers envisioned innovative ways to rebuild while preserving the monument's iconic spirit. Here are some of the proposed concepts: 🏛️ Same as original: as a religious monument, the most straightforward approach was to rebuild the original structure. 🗼 Modernize the spire: Replace the spire with a new, iconic design that would enhance the monument's status as a global symbol. ⚖️ Rebuild the spire but re-imagine the roof by rebuilding the wooden spire as before, while replacing the lost roof with a see-through structure. 🌿 Sustainability: following a trend by including a rooftop garden that would span the entire length of the cathedral and its crossing. ❓In your opinion, which project most effectively combines tradition and innovation? ✨ If you're looking for a creative partner in themed entertainment, to bring your ideas to life, let's connect! I'm always open to new opportunities and collaborations. #Innovation #Tradition #Design #Future #NotreDame

The future of #humanity found in an architectural giant. 🏗 The Museum of Tomorrow, or Museu do Amanhã in Portuguese, was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, located in Rio de Janeiro. Nestled in the heartbeat of Brazil, it stands as a vision to the future, showcasing the very best of #greendesign principles. It combines cutting-edge technologies & #sustainability ; making it a symbol of collective responsibility. It features a distinctive cantilevered roof, sustainable design elements, and interactive exhibits that explore themes of green design, ecology, and the #future of humanity. But how is it designed for tomorrow? ➡ Immersive experiences: Emphasizes #interactive and immersive exhibits that engage visitors in a dialogue about the future. ➡ Sustainable design: The building incorporates sustainable design features such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, and green roofs. ➡ Cultural integration: The museum's exhibits and design elements draw inspiration from Brazilian art, #history , and #culture ➡ Kinetic facade that adjusts to lights based on environmental conditions The Museum of Tomorrow explores the possibilities of tomorrow through a unique and immersive experience. Can you think of other sustainable architecture designs? 🤘 #greenarchitecture #sustainabledesign #greendesign #innovation #sustainability #ecofriendly #futuristicdesign #100daysofdesign

I think you know the examples on how architecture can redefine urban identity and put cities on a map. Yesterady I had an opportunity to visit Szczecin representing Architectresses | Architektoniczki on Human Right Conference. Of course a stop in Philharmonic is a must! Why? Because this building has totally redefined the city’s narrative, elevating the city's significance on the global stage! What this building has changed: 👇 👉 Architecture as Identity Szczecin, a city with a complex history and diverse cultural influences, has long been searching for a modern symbol to represent its identity. The Philharmonic Hall, designed by the Spanish architectural firm ESTUDIO BAROZZI VEIGA SLP, offers this in a powerful and evocative form. 👉 A Catalyst for Urban Renewal Its presence has sparked urban renewal. The area around the building has transformed into a vibrant cultural hub, attracting tourists, artists, and locals alike. Architecture has brought new life into a city, fostering not only economic growth but what more important- social interaction. 👉 Raising Global Visibility Before the construction of the Philharmonic Hall, Szczecin was not widely recognized on the international cultural map. However, the building’s striking design has garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award in 2015. This recognition has put Szczecin in the spotlight, attracting global attention and increasing its tourism appeal, asserting itself as a destination for art, culture, and innovation Architecture is not merely about constructing buildings; it is about shaping the soul of a city and giving it a voice. #architectresses #architektoniczki #barozziveiga #philharmonichallszczecin #architecturematters

🌍 🇩🇪🇨🇭During my first semester of exchange at hepia in Geneva, I had the opportunity to work on a fascinating studio project focused on Berlin, the quintessential Groszstadt. Berlin, with its complex industrial, political, and cultural layers, served as our study model. We explored its radical urban experiences and how they could inform the ideal city of the 21st century—a city characterized by simultaneous qualities: hierarchical, fragmented, dense, expansive, green, working-class, bourgeois, cultural, nonconformist, capitalist, and supportive. Our project involved analyzing a key urban structure in Berlin, identifying its origins and specific characteristics to consider interventions across various timelines. The studio emphasized density and usage, experimenting with urban and architectural projects in a real-world context. We employed diverse typological and morphological research approaches, focusing on spatial relationships between public and private, common and individual, and residential and production areas. The goal was to address urban projects at multiple scales, uncovering the identity and potential of the place. #Architecture #UrbanDesign #Berlin #ExchangeProgram #UNAM #hepia #Geneva #Switzerland #SustainableDesign #StudioProject #AcademicJourney

MUSEUM OF EMOTIONS- Edition #4 Competition entry Title- The journey Description- The two spaces of the museum have the same maze layout but a contrasting impact on the emotions of the user. In the lower space the user can clearly see the goal through the transparent glass but still feel stuck, confused and frustrated. Whereas in the upper space, the user is not clear about the goal but still has a sensory experience walking amid the textures, colours, fragrance and the life around. The user is actually enjoying the journey....as it is said IT'S ALL ABOUT THE JOURNEY..... #museum #museumofemotions #sensoryarchitecture #sensoryexperience #landscapearchitecture #landscapedesign #spacedesign #competition #architecture #architecturecompetition #maze #emotions #journey

With a title like Humanise in this AI age, you've got me. In this book, British designer Thomas Heatherwick takes aim at modernism that has led to "boring" design in architecture. He dubs it the le Corbusier effect. Buildings without soul. Too much repetition, too little visual complexity. Other key factors weigh in, too. Like cost (cheap materials), efficiency (prefab), economics and politics (affordable housing), among others. So now, buildings look largely the same - square "commoditised" blocks of glass, steel and concrete. I was happy that Singapore had honorable mentions in Gardens by the Bay being among the world's ten most loved buildings, and the Parkroyal Collection hotel as being one building that holds your attention at the city (40m), street (20m) and door (2m) distances. While I agree with Heatherwick to some extent about how buildings are becoming more alike, I do favour Japanese architecture, which is more along the mimimalistic scale. There is also beauty in distilling to the essence. Heatherwick's main clarion call? Human beings need human places. But I suppose that when one starts by referencing Gaudi's works in the opening pages, it is a tough act to follow for almost all other structures. P.S. There was not a lot of mention of it in the book, but I was thinking that ESG has a part to play in terms of "humanising" buildings, especially in terms of gardens, living walls or rooftop vegetation that add visual appeal and create more pleasant spaces. I think I will be looking more closely at any building from now on. #architecture #humanise #esg #buildings #gaudi #visualdesign #modernism #lecorbusier

In the pursuit of sufficiency, embracing a lifestyle within planetary boundaries means finding balance — having enough without excess and respecting, rather than exploiting, our environment. But what does this look like in urban planning? How can we design neighborhoods where sustainable choices are easy? As part of Keilecollectief, Cityförster Rotterdam explored the history of Dutch building culture, analyzed its current state, and envisioned future scenarios. These efforts culminated in our exhibition: "HOW DO WE WANT TO BUILD M4H 2030?" As part of our ongoing research, Carbon-Based Urbanism, we examined four historical typologies from Rotterdam, placing them in a national-historical context that includes economic trends, regulations, and socio-political developments. This approach offers a multi-layered perspective on the relationships between urban planning, lifestyle, and our ecological footprint. The Merwe-Vierhavens (M4H) area in Rotterdam is transforming into a dynamic live/work district with circularity at its core. To realize this vision, we must collectively answer the question: how do we want to build? Want to visit the exhibition? Send us a message, we look forward to showing you around! Date: June 15, 2024 – September 15, 2024 (closed from July 14, 2024 – August 20, 2024) Opening hours: Wednesday-Saturday from 12:00 to 17:00. Location: Keilezaal, Keilestraat 7-9, 3029 BP Rotterdam HOW DO WE WANT TO BUILD M4H 2030 is an initiative of the Keilecollectief with contributions by Happel Cornelisse Verhoeven, De Urbanisten, CITYFÖRSTER, GROUP A architects | Carbon Lab and StudioADAMS. The exhibition is supported by Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie, Gemeente Rotterdam (Cultuur), M4H Rotterdam, AIR - Architectuur Instituut Rotterdam , Vandersanden, Cordeel Group, Dura Vermeer Bouw Heyma B.V. , DGMR, Aveco de Bondt, ABT bv, Concrete Blossom and Adviesbureau Lüning.
