I analyze political events like I analyze my favorite game: hockey. To understand the game of hockey, you need to understand the rules because you’re watching the game in action. It is the same thing with politics because what I analyze is politics. You need to understand the country’s rules of the political game because you’re watching the country’s political game in action. https://lnkd.in/etHSENnt

You should watch politics like you watch a sport on TV when you make sense of political events because you are watching the rules of the political game at work. JOHN KERRY: "WE NEED TO CONTROL SOCIAL MEDIA" "I think the dislike and anguish over social media is growing, and it's part of the problem, especially in democracies. Building consensus on any issue is incredibly difficult today; it's almost impossible to govern. People self-select where they get their news and information, which creates a vicious cycle. There's growing discussion about how we curb these platforms to ensure accountability and facts. If people only go to one source, and that source is corrupt or has an agenda, spreading disinformation, our First Amendment is a major roadblock to eliminating it. We need to win the right to govern by securing enough votes to implement change." Yet again, we see how political leaders have lost the ability to operate within democratic principles. The solution isn’t to eliminate platforms that share information we disagree with—it’s to promote the freedom of information, ensuring there are multiple outlets available so people can make their own informed choices. Today, I visited a museum in Albania that details how totalitarian regimes manipulate information and propaganda—exactly what is happening right now in many Western democracies. People often think only communist or fascist states can be totalitarian, but that's not true. We can have regimes disguised as democracies that operate in a totalitarian manner. And, as always, it's "for our own good." Sources: World Economic Forum
