Nearly $20 million will be allocated to a new pilot program designed to support Queensland Small and Family Businesses and their apprentices. The LNP has unveiled an Apprenticeship Support plan aimed at covering up to half the wages of apprentices. This initiative seeks to provide financial assistance, streamline regulatory requirements, and make it easier to secure apprentices. Initially, the program will be available to 2,000 apprentices employed by small and family businesses in the construction industry. Here's how it'll work: ➡️ 50% of apprentice wages covered for first and second-year apprentices ➡️ 25% of wages covered for third and fourth-year apprentices ➡️ Both during training block periods of four weeks, twice a year. You can read more about this program here: https://bit.ly/4fp0bPI If you're n employer looking to hire an apprentice and want to know more about the initiatives available to you, contact our team today! We know that support for apprentices can make a significant impact on their outcomes – yet, there is disparity amongst the support apprentices can access and this affects how they do, not only on their apprenticeship but beyond. Our mission at the Association of Apprentices is to right this and improve outcomes for all apprentices. 🔊 Our annual insight report showcases how we make this happen. And some major things here in terms of journey to parity: ⭐ Our members working in SMEs has increased from 14% to 24% ⭐ Over half of our members come from more deprived areas ⭐ We have launched the Post-Apprenticeship Recognition Scheme (PARS), a brand-new awards scheme, that in partnership with the The Chartered Institution for Further Education, sees completed apprentices recognised for the skills they have gained during their apprenticeship with an award and the right to use post nominals. A huge thank you to the organisations who partner with us to help reach more apprentices in the UK, and to the AoA team and all our members, including the brilliant Apprentice Council. Apprenticeship completion rates have been in steady decline over several years. In a mid-February press release Australian Minister for Skills and Training Brendan O’Connor announced the establishment of a Strategic Review of the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System to look "into how support can best be placed to increase the completion rate.” This is in line with governments’ desire to lift completion rates across the VET sector, and in apprenticeships and traineeships. Missed Opportunities: The Importance of Passing Down Apprenticeship Opportunities Yesterday, I attended the Building Growth Skills Network for Norfolk and Suffolk Provider group meeting, where we had an insightful discussion about the challenges facing construction apprenticeships. The supply side looks promising—providers mentioned having an abundance of eager young talent ready to step into the industry. However, the real challenge now lies on the demand side. We desperately need more employers to engage in formal recruitment practices. Simply put, we need them to advertise their vacancies! No more hidden job markets or hiring based on who you know. Just post the roles, and we can help you find the best candidate. Our CITB Advisors are here to support you—check out the local support available on the CITB website. https://lnkd.in/eYqbCuM2 During the meeting, an interesting point was raised: once apprentices complete their training and leave, we often never hear from them again. Yet, many of these individuals go on to become business owners themselves. This led me to reflect on a missed opportunity within the sector. As these young people exit their apprenticeships, we should be doing more to instill the responsibility they have to "pay it forward" by taking on apprentices themselves if they’re ever in a position to do so. This cultural shift won't yield immediate results, but by planting these seeds now, we create a future where more young people will have the same opportunities 10 to 15 years down the line. Let's not miss this chance to build a stronger, more sustainable future for construction. #BuildingGrowth #Apprenticeships #Construction #Careers #FE #CITB #PayItForward

🔍 Understanding the Difference: 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘷𝘴. 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘈𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘈𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 🔍 Navigating the Australian Apprenticeship system can be complex, but understanding the roles of different providers can make a significant difference in the enhanced services you can access. Let's break down differences between Generalist and Specialist Apprenticeship Connect Providers: 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲: Offer comprehensive support services to ALL apprentices and employers, regardless of industry or the apprentice's demographic. 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: Assist all employer and apprentice with the sign-up process, provide advice on training contracts obligations, help find the right RTO, claim administration, and offer ongoing support throughout the apprenticeship or traineeship journey. 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲: Focus on specific groups or industries, such as women in male-dominated trades, First Nations Australian Apprentices, or apprentices in clean energy occupations. 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: In addition to general services, they provide tailored support to address the unique challenges and needs of their specific specialist group. Specialist providers can only sign up and manage the cohort they have been contracted for, and not able to sign up apprentices or trainees that don't fall within their specialist cohort. Both types of providers are essential in ensuring apprentices and employers receive the necessary support to succeed in their training and career development. By understanding these differences, you can choose the Provider that best supports the needs of the apprentice. According to SCAPE's Social Value in Construction Benchmarking Report 2024, apprenticeships are proving to be one of the top drivers of social value across our construction industry. The numbers speak for themselves: - Social value from skills and employment doubled since 2022. - Over 15,600 weeks of on-site apprenticeships employment were created across 329 contracts. It's good to know that apprenticeships are impacting communities this way. What is PARS? I have been talking to a number of colleagues over the last few weeks around the fantastic news of Apprentices being able to use post nominals when they complete their apprenticeship if they register with the Association of Apprentices (AoA - free registration). Quite a number of colleagues were not aware of this so I thought I would share on here for all my connections too. These post-nominals will give visible confirmation of achievement and increase the kudos of apprenticeships - so from this summer expect to see more CSA/CAA/CHA/CDA appear on linked in. There are guidelines on the AoA website below but the majority of apprentices who completed since 2019 (standards) will also retrospectively be able to apply for their post nominals. Share the good news with your apprentices and employers and let your HR/recruitment teams to look out for those as your look for your next talented recruits! #kudos #apprenticeships #recognition # Emily Rock (Austin) Jason Holt CBE #associationofapprentices
