What an inspiring book. I picked this up from your feed Harry Moffitt. As a father of a 2 year old girl this is extremely enlightening and I’d argue required reading for parents of late Gen Z or so called Gen Alpha. Cliff notes: + social media is a systemic cause of anxiety among young people. A seismic shift in society has occurred (not is ocurring). + overprotecting children from the real world and under protecting them from the virtual world is a grave mistake caused by the experinece gap of generations (parents and children) + the driving force of this change is profit. That’s disappointing. As WithYouWithMe this makes me think about the workforce changes underway. With those born in 1999-2005 now roughly 1-6 years into the workforce. What will this change within career lifecycle, leadership, employee values and management practices. How will ongoing interactions with social media in the professional sense, change our psyche around talent, hiring assessments, cognitive bias and equality. Highly recommended read.

Happy Monday everyone! This morning i'm reflecting on the intricate balance of leadership styles, especially as a female leader navigating various levels of digital literacy and comfort among team members. The parallel between leadership in the workplace and parenting roles is profound. As a tech leader and a parent, I've realized that both require selflessness, effective communication, delegation, teamwork, and goal alignment. Feedback from my children, particularly my passionate daughter, is immediate and candid - often harsh and ill timed but I appreciate it! (Sidebar - I never received any maternity pay so we were skint!) Navigating questions about balancing work and parenthood is a common challenge. My response? Drawing on my 18 years of experience managing complex technology issues and my genuine LOVE for my work. While I constantly seek growth through podcasts and articles, the simplest yet most powerful advice I received was from my mum - to be kind and fair. MISTAKES women leaders in tech make that keep them stuck. I often talk to women leaders in tech with a successful 20-year career. And I found they are unfulfilled in their career but don't know why. Mistakes like: - Thinking chasing more pay and promotions will make them happy - Thinking doing more will make them fulfilled - Constantly seeking external validation - Not prioritizing themselves and their well-being - Not achieving work-life balance because they feel the need to overwork because they are “women” - Waiting for retirement to find happiness The truth is, as a woman leader, you can achieve fulfillment in your tech career, make the impact you desire, and get the promotion and pay you deserve. Without necessarily doing MORE. Often it’s about doing less and making sure you are doing the key strategic things needed. It's disheartening that a lot of women leaders spend years doing the wrong things without truly achieving fulfillment in their careers. But it's also a wake-up call! I’m coming back to introverts. For the last few weeks, I’ve been largely off LinkedIn.  Creating HR and coaching resources for startups and SMBs. And mapping out upcoming releases of my 2 new group coaching programs. And something’s been missing. Over the last few months, I’ve onboarded new fractional HR clients into my business. During this time, I paused my focus on being in service to introverts. Hey, I’ve been enjoying my work with these new HR clients.  And something’s also been missing. It hit me over this past weekend. Coaching introverts at all career stages (new grad, individual contributor, leader, executive) is what lights me up. As an introvert, nothing gives me greater joy than to bear witness to fellow introverts shining. Supporting them as they deepen self-awareness and self-acceptance to live and lead as their truest selves. So, I’m coming back to introverts. I’ll continue to support startups and SMBs as a Fractional Chief People Officer. I know I’ll continue to enjoy helping them future-fit their teams.
