Just a quick update on why I haven’t been very active online lately. Two weeks ago, my proposal to develop 3 #training modules for the Dutch Ministry of #Economics was approved. These modules will focus on current worldwide #developments and future #trends, the usage of AI for good governance, and AI #guidelines for #government and #policy applications. The program also includes practical #training in #prompt engineering and hands-on workshops that allow participants to work with real-life #scenarios. Right now, I am preparing and researching for these modules, which is why I will be less active in sharing blogs and other #content. However, I will do my best to post occasionally 😊 #AI #GoodGovernance #MinistryOfEconomics #TrainingModules #FutureTrends #PromptEngineering #PolicyApplications #Research #Innovation #PublicSector #Economy #Wealth #ArtificialIntelligence

“Avoid overflying on AI tools to summarize every article. Using AI to read papers offers efficiency but lacks efficacy as it falls short in fostering knowledge retention” I came across this post and I must say, the following is worth reading. Enjoy!

// Critically Considering the Sources of Information // Emily M. Bender as she always does perfectly frames the future we ought to be working towards. "What I'd love to see is a unversity that responds to the [AI] pressure and hype by saying something like this: We're going to prepare for this AI future that everyone is talking about by committing to funding fundamental research across disciplines, but especially the humanities and social sciences. Of course, we're concerned about the ethical and equitable development and use of the technology, and that's why we need scholars who are innovating at the edges of our understanding of how humans experience life, how power works in society, how we can reshape our social and economic systems towards justice, equity and sustainability. And we recommit to our mission of training students to be critical thinkers across disciplines, who can critically consider sources of information and locate them within their context, who can evaluate toolkits for the tasks they are taking on and decide which tools fit which task, and who can see through the glib marketing that power cloaks itself in."

I am a sucker for 'good' science fiction: thought experiments that explore our human nature against a backdrop of technological and societal changes. I find it sparks inspired reflection. Here's an example from my past holiday. 👇 I had the pleasure of reading "Friday" by Robert Heinlein: a science fiction novel published in 1982 - yet oddly relevant today: 1️⃣ The protagonist expressed frustration in trying to get information from an AI. The AI turned out to be programmed to be polite and not say "no," resulting in an organic, yet fruitless and time-consuming conversation. And of course, any interaction with automated services enabled user tracking. This rekindled my thinking on (user) interests and our world’s most commonly used digital services. 2️⃣ Even more striking were the book's hypothesized symptoms of societal decay, which hit uncomfortably close to home looking at today's world. The internet's echo rooms and “fake news” came to mind immediately. Can you recommend any books with a future vision that made you rethink our society and its technology? Let me know! 📢 #TechReflections #AI #Society
