Teachers will play two important roles: First, they will be human mentors and connectors for the students. Human teachers will be the driving force behind stimulating the students' critical think-ing, creativity, empathy, and teamwork. And the teacher will be a clarifier when a student is confused, a confronter when the student is complacent, and a comforter when the student is frustrated. In other words, teachers can focus less on the rote aspects of imparting knowledge and more on building emotional intelligence, creativity, character, values, and resilience in students. The second role that teachers will play is to direct and program the Al teacher and companion in ways that will best address the students' needs. They will do this based on their experience, wisdom, and in-depth understanding of the students' potential and dreams. I built Pregrade not only because I was tired of spending massive amounts of time #grading #essays -- but also because I felt the need to provide better #feedback faster. Regardless how dedicated I was to providing great feedback, there really was only so much I could do when grading the work of hundreds of students. Today, I asked my undergraduates how they felt about the hybrid AI-human feedback they were receiving (i.e., #ai does a first draft of the grades and comments, the human double checks and fine tunes). I was taken aback about exactly how much the students seemed to appreciate the feedback. They expressed a degree of enthusiasm that I frankly found a bit shocking. This does make me wonder if we're onto something really big here -- not just as an ed tech founder, but also as an educator and an AI nerd. And if we can use AI-assisted feedback (with a human-in-the-loop) this way, I wonder if the dream of personalized education is not nearly as far away as I once thought it was.
