The promise of #healthcare providers prescribing #DigitalTherapeutics to treat #MentalHealth conditions achieved a major milestone this week - just in time for #BHT2024! The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued a final rule authorizing three new reimbursement codes for #DigitalMentalHealthTreatment devices. Find details here: https://lnkd.in/dpUFWfBb I share a perspective on the benefits of integrating digital mental health tools into patient care in the Fast Company article below. Science-backed digital mental health tools offer tremendous potential to improve care, provide support between sessions, and help patients proactively develop and practice new skills that lead to better outcomes. I'm grateful to the industry leaders & visionaries pioneering the field of Digital Therapeutics - it's been a long & expensive road with many setbacks. Perhaps someday doctors will prescribe digital therapeutics powered by the SuperBetter methodology to improve care for #anxiety, #depression, #ChronicPain, #NeurologicalDisorders & other conditions. As the industry matures, we're interested in partnerships to realize this possibility. #DTx #DMHT
Medicare could soon start covering digital mental health therapies

Milliman reports the cost of care is up 7% and Rx costs are up 13% vs. last year. That's now $7K for individuals and $32K for a family of 4 per year. 💡 Everyone should be paying attention to these numbers—especially if you don't work in healthcare. Unfortunately, numbers like these are why the Nonfiction Research study we commissioned found that 40% of workplace insured Americans are deferring care due to cost. Part of the rise in Rx costs is due to patients getting access to new drugs that are making their physical health better while the financial burden gets heavier. This seems to be the double edged sword of pharmacy innovation. I know we're all dreaming about a world where families don't have to make this choice. Here are a few key questions we should be asking for ourselves and the people we are responsible for (whether that's your kids or your employees): 1. What actions can we take to ensure early diagnosis and chronic condition management stays affordable in 2024? The answer is not just $0 preventive care. 2. How can we fortify our finances in 2024 to be able to afford care needs when they arise? The answer is not just the HSA/FSA. I have a few ideas but I'm curious what others think... https://lnkd.in/geY3pHvG

Patient burnout and physician burnout together underscore the importance of transformation in healthcare. The effects of patient burnout are real—and they are an obstacle to improved health. “Going to the doctor may never be a fun experience, but surely it can be better than it is right now,” Jamie Ducharme writes in this TIME magazine article. At a time when patients want to be engaged by their primary care physician, too often, their encounters feel impersonal and rushed. When this happens, patients feel as though they are being treated by someone who doesn’t know them. It’s one reason why three out of four patients believe the healthcare system has failed them in some way, according to a Harris poll on the patient experience. The U.S. healthcare system that pays for managing sickness rather than promoting health and preventing chronic diseases (60% of U.S. adults have a chronic disease) has led to a deep moral hazard in healthcare. The U.S. spends more per capita on healthcare than any other developed country in the world, but has subpar health outcomes. It’s time for payers and healthcare systems to support primary care providers leading the transformation through new care models that incorporate technology, enhance access to care, use risk stratification models to drive high-touch, team-based chronic disease management, foster effective collaboration with high-value sub-specialists, and deliver patient centered care. “Primary care is supposed to be the bedrock of the U.S. medical system. Yet about a quarter of American adults don't have a primary care provider,” Ducharme writes. How is your organization driving a patient-centered care experience? And, what are you learning along the way? Find out how we’re advancing patient-centered care at Dr. Mary Tilak & Associates. "Improving access to effective weight-loss treatments, including lifestyle interventions and GLP-1 medications, could help alleviate the economic burden of #obesity on #healthcare systems. These findings make a strong case for prioritising weight management strategies as part of broader #publichealth and insurance policies.
