If you're budgeting for an IT or Technology executive be sure to consider a few critical items to attract the right person. ➡️ Are you able to confidently say IT and Tech will have a seat at the strategic table? ↪️ The right IT/Tech leaders will want and need this to be successful. ➡️ Are there "Champions" in your organization to support change and adoption of new technology and processes? ↪️ Having top down support when driving change is important. ➡️ Are you prepared to payout in cash and/or equity to buyout that executives STI and/or LTI compensation components they might be leaving on the table due to payouts that typically happen in March/April? ↪️ This should be no surprise but not budgeting nor planning for this can create a poor experience during the offer stage and possibly lose out on the executive you want. #executivesearch #IT #Techhiring #CIO #CTO #CISO #CPO #CDO

✨ 🌊 Are we looking at the End of an Era for #Consulting? This is one of those posts that has been percolating in my mind for a long time I often describe myself as "A Recovering Consultant", but even after being dry for almost 8 years, I still catch myself looking back at my time as a consultant with very fond and nostalgic eyes (...all while resisting the urge to dive back into it yet again!) ... and I can't pretend I don't feel a bittersweet tinge when I check in with friends who are still in the industry and tell me stories of how they are trying to swim against the forces of the market. Couple that with a steady stream of news about layoffs, including stories of McKinsey, the posterchild of the industry, laying off senior partners as they look to restructure (an idea that was unheard of only a few years ago) 🔪It feels like Consulting is going into a period of death by a thousand cuts ❓Why is this? 📉 Demand for traditional consulting services is dropping as companies are tightening their purse strings, and fewer companies can afford the traditionally high rates - there are also more alternatives available (e.g. experienced independent consultants or fractional staff) ✨ #AI and #ServiceAsSoftware businesses are disrupting the consulting industry 🏡 #WFH is eroding the collegiate culture of consulting firms, which in turn is impacting the ability to hire the best and brightest GenZ'ers 🌍 Offshore costs have risen considerably in the last 5 years which is impacting profitability and team dynamics 🪞 Consulting leaders are now (ironically) facing their own #InnovatorsDilemma - reengineering the revenue models that you've traditionally relied on for growth is very hard to do 🛠️ 🎢 👀 So how do I think this will play out... 🔹 There will always be value in top level strategic thinking - but strategic thinking will need to be more technology enabled than ever before, especially with AI (both in co-pilot and AI Automation formats) 🔹 Scale is becoming less and less of an advantage (unless you have unique data that allows you to build a moat) - we will start to see a lot of smaller hybrid AI tech and consulting firms pop up focused on niche sub-industry + sub-functional areas 🔹 The lines between consulting and technology will continue to blur with the emergence of "Service as Software" - this will start to open up the long tail of companies that don't traditionally use consultants to start using 3rd parties to provide services traditionally only provided by consultants 🔹 ‼️Pricing models will change‼️ The lack of transparency of traditional consulting "value" based pricing (which is then used to define how many people you can afford on your project is broken - Clients will start to demand new "consumption" and "outcome" based #PricingModels 🔹 Consultants are by nature risk-averse but these changes will mean that only the bold, risk taking firms will manage to ride this wave Curious to hear other thoughts - pls add comments 👇

Richard Wiedenbeck's article is worth reading in this edition of The Heller Report, as he explains: “Unlike other emerging technologies, AI has the potential to transform every industry and do it in ways that I’m not even sure we can imagine,” says Wiedenbeck. “We didn’t want to just implement the technology for the technology’s sake. Productivity and efficiency is our goal.” This is the fundamental mindset for digital transformation and particularly when it comes to AI.
