Over the past couple of years, Nvidia, by far the largest AI chipmaker, has ramped up its investments in startups that propel it deeper into the AI space. What is top of mind for a CTO? It was amazing to see how he managed through all the CTO challenges and how far the company has come in the two years since the program. NVIDIA is now the #1 most valuable company in the world. Behind the scenes, the $3.6T chipmaker is investing heavily in startups. Why? Nvidia is inserting itself deeper into the AI ecosystem to grow with these startups. Running intensive AI applications requires specialized processors. Nvidia dominates this market, with an estimated up to 95% market share. Many of the startups the chipmaker has invested in are in turn using Nvidia’s chips. What’s next? We’re watching Nvidia’s investment and partnership activity to track the future of the AI landscape. For example, the chipmaker is partnering with companies focusing on quantum AI.

In partnership with Intel Ignite, we’ve produced a report exploring the current state of the UK’s deep tech sector, alongside the impact of Intel Ignite’s deep tech accelerator programme. The 26 UK startups supported by Intel Ignite have collectively raised £134m since joining the programme. Report highlights: ✅There are 5,841 active deep tech companies in the UK. ✅ Deep tech companies have raised £37.9b in private equity since 2014, including £6.55b in 2023 alone. ✅ Over 2,500 deep tech companies have raised more than $1m in private equity, demonstrating strong investor confidence. ✅ 31.7% of deep tech companies operate in the AI sub-sector, with quantum and robotics gaining momentum. ✅ UK universities have launched 946 high-growth deep tech spinouts, fuelling the pipeline of transformative technologies.
