Europe needs to move faster. 🇬🇧 It was a pleasure to receive birthday wishes from the Prime Minister Keir Starmer this morning. We had a great discussion about the regulatory burdens European technology companies are facing. Growing bureaucracy and lack of risk taking are causing us to keep falling behind US and China. I remain optimistic for Europe, but reforms require decisive politicians.
The same happens in the medical device industry - after implementation of the new medical device regulation (MDR) in 2021, Europe is over regulated compared to the US.
It takes courage and individuals willing to challenge the status quo in every domain. Innovation is essential, and governments and lawmakers must collaborate with innovators rather than work against them. Their role is to provide direction, not create obstacles. They need to match the pace of innovation and act proactively, rather than reactively.
Insightful point! Europe’s strength in innovation is undeniable, but growing bureaucracy hinders its agility. To stay competitive, we need bold reforms that streamline processes and empower technology companies. A forward-thinking regulatory approach is key to unlocking Europe’s full potential!
Guess where Bolt will get listed :)
Happy birthday Markus Villig. Bolt had a global lightning start and prospects ⚡ But there are some bolts 🔩 that need tightening in the outer markets and jurisdictions across the spectra. (Happy to discuss) As you add another year, here is wishing you more successful outcomes in Europe, America, Africa and elsewhere in the world.
What do you think would be the most impactful change in EU politicies?
Hey Markus Villig, i need a little help here to implement my idea.🙏 https://www.linkedin.com/posts/ag-nyangaresi-mba-99a8449b_entrepreneurship-innovation-sustainability-ugcPost-7271887577584992257-95ff
Why should the bus move faster if the conductor takes months to collect the fare?
Indeed reducing regulatory barriers is essential for enabling innovation, especially in our industry. As a good example, Romania is one of the markets where local government and authorities are open to work together with us in order to make cities for people, not cars. Happy birthday, Markus!
Helping CRE get more profitable and cut costs by turning existing cameras into data collection sensors
3dThe Financial Times last weekend had a great article on this. It’s not bureaucracy so much, but rather comes down to Founders - they make up over half of US VC teams, but only 8% in Europe. So we have very risk averse VC’s in Europe with minimal (if any) Founder experience and it’s seriously hindering the growth of big, bold, innovative businesses as they don’t get funded. Will find the link and post here. And happy birthday!! 🥳
