🚀 Facing the press can be intimidating, whether you're a Fortune 500 CEO or a startup founder. I've found that the biggest fear is often misquoting or saying the wrong thing. In today’s fast-paced media landscape, one slip can escalate quickly. Here’s how to ace your next interview: KNOW THE INTERVIEW FORMAT 🎤 Understand if it’s a backgrounder or an expert interview and prepare accordingly. RESEARCH THE REPORTER 📰 Know their recent stories and social media tone. Be ready for tough questions, especially if there’s a history of negative coverage. PLAN YOUR MESSAGES 📝 Identify your key points. Keep them simple, memorable, and free of jargon. PRACTICE 🎯 Just like athletes, practice your responses. Rehearse with potential questions and prepare for sensitive topics. Ideally, prep the day before to avoid last-minute stress. FOLLOW UP WITH THANKS 🙏 Send a thank-you note post-interview and share the story once it’s live to show your support. THE BOTTOM LINE: A media misstep can have big consequences, but with thorough preparation and practice, you can turn interviews into reputation-boosting opportunities. 🌟 #MediaTraining #PRTips #ReputationManagement #InterviewPrep #CEO #PublicRelations

It's Social Saturday! Let's gist! So I had an interview via zoom sometime ago and the interviewer was so rude. So rude that I decided there and then that I couldn't work under such a supervisor or in a toxic environment. Interviewer: Tell me about yourself Me: I'm a data driven social media management and advertising specialist with the passion for ... Interviewer cuts in in a very rude way Interviewer : That's not what I want, tell me your name, the school you attended.... I smiled and continued (saying things that are boldly written on my CV which were not necessary at all to repeat) Interviewer: How much were you earning in your previous role. Me: I would love to keep that information away if you don't mind Ma'am. Interviewer: See! I don't have time I don't have time, I have other people to attend to. Me: I sincerely appreciate you considering to interview me, I believe you can find who you're looking for from the list of the other people you have to attend to. If you don't mind I'll like to discontinue the interview. Interviewer: Ends call abruptly. When the call ended I just smiled Let me pause here and get your reactions please. Did I say something wrong? Would I have answered the questions differently? I'll be waiting in the comment section. Happy Social Saturday 🎉🎉🎉🎉 #socialsaturday #letsconnect #opentoconnect #socialmediamanager #socialmediamarketing

Interviewer: You have 30 seconds to impress me. What would you say? 🗣️ how you introduce yourself can make or break your chances. Whether it's at the start or the end of an interview, here's a powerful strategy. Focus on Achievements: Skip the common buzzwords like "confident," "dedicated," or "experienced." Instead, highlight a key achievement that sets you apart. Here’s how I’d approach it: “I’d say, ‘Sir/Madam, I’ve done my research and understand that one of your key challenges might be [mention a specific problem, like expanding into new markets or improving customer retention]. In my previous role as [Your Role], I tackled a similar issue by [briefly describe your solution, e.g., implementing a targeted marketing strategy that increased market share by 20%]. I’m eager to bring that experience here and help solve this challenge for your team.’” Why this works: By positioning yourself as a solution to a specific problem the company is facing, you demonstrate not only your understanding of their needs but also your ability to deliver results. Want to craft a pitch that positions you as the solution? Visit www.theresumescoach.com or send me a message. Tell me about yourself! Such a simple question, and yet it manages to stump many. Whether it’s in interviews, networking events, or a date, this question often gets a scripted, robotic response—or worse, an irrelevant ramble. Here’s the irony: we all love talking about ourselves, but when it comes to introducing who we are, we miss the mark. Think about this from a marketing perspective. How many brands have you seen using catchy phrases that feel completely disconnected from what you care about? - "As seen on Shark Tank." Okay, cool. But how does that make your product better for me? - "Hand-cut fries, not machine-cut." Interesting trivia, but does that improve the taste? The problem lies in missing relevance. When people or brands communicate, the focus should always be on answering one question: “What’s in it for me?” This is why your personal introduction matters so much. Whether you’re pitching yourself to someone new, the listener isn’t there to hear your life story. They want to know how you bring value—intellectual, emotional, social, or even just good company at that moment. It’s not about memorizing a one-size-fits-all speech. It’s about tailoring your story to the person you’re speaking to, to the setting, and to the impact you want to leave. Struggling to nail your introduction? Let’s connect. I’d love to share how I approach this to make every conversation count. #interviews #networking #introduceyourself #jobs #mba #personalbranding

Secret Trick to Impress ANY Interviewer🤫 Hint: It's NOT What You Think!🤔 Picture this: You're sitting across from the hiring manager, feeling the heat. You've prepped for the typical questions, researched the company... but deep down, you know everyone else has done the same and wish you could have done something different while preparing You could !🙌 Instead of just reading about the company – read up on the -BIG BOSS. The CEO. The head honcho.👑 Find his / her online video 📹, interviews🎙️, articles📰, Linkedin posts and comments etc. If you look careful you will realize there’s something powerful you can use in your responses to the person interviewing you😉 What should you look for?👀 Look for words and phrases s/he uses over and over again. Like... "Swim in the blue ocean!" 🌊 Or "Eat your own dog food." 🍽️ Or "Culture eats strategy for breakfast."🍳 Next... When you're in the interview, sprinkle those magic words into YOUR answers! ✨ Suddenly, the interviewer's ears perk up. "Wow!"🤩 they think, "This person gets it! They understand what's important to our leader." Why does this work ?🤔 - Most CEOs have some pet phrases which they use in important forums - These words get picked up and get used by others - There’s a good chance these phrases / words are being used by your interviewer or at least s/he is familiar with them - When the interviewer hears you using them, the affinity bias kicks in But here's the catch:⚠️ Don't just parrot the words like a robot!🤖 Don’t overused them.🚫 Use them in a way that sounds natural, like they're your own ideas.😎 Need help with your client presentations: DM me "PRESENTATION SCIENCE"📌 #careertips #jobsearch #interviewtips #gethired #linkedin

Better question = Better answers👂👂 Over my career I’ve asked millions of questions and listened to millions of answers. Asking questions and properly listening to the answers is the most important part of my job. Digging, digging, digging and digging some more ⛏️ Listening, listening, listening and listening some more👂 Asking great questions is absolutely essential to the success of what I do. Reading between the lines is a very useful skill too 🚩🚩🚩 I don’t assume to know everything and love to get tips from experts, it helps me be better at my job. Last week, I learned from the master, John Sturrock at “The Art of Asking Questions” hosted by EICC and the David Hume Institute. By the end of the session my hand ached from scribbling so many notes ✍️ I couldn’t help thinking that the vast majority of problems related to a making a “bad hire” or taking the “wrong job” could have been prevented by asking better questions 🤔 Interviewing is all about questions and all about listening. Don’t forget about the listening… 👂👂 Useful tips. 💡Ask open questions to encourage full answers, prepare these in advance. 💡Be present, give the person your full attention, avoid thinking about the next question while they are speaking. 💡Use their answer to the question as the foundation to your next question. 💡Be careful to avoid making assumptions and ensure you actively correct unconscious bias where possible. Example questions. ❓What else do I need to know about…? ❓What do you really think about…? ❓How specifically would you…? ❓What else do you need to tell us? ❓What in particular have we / I not understood? ❓What else do we / I need to know? ❓What one question / issue worries you the most? ❓How can you help us address this? ❓What could you have done differently? I’ve started practicing these techniques on my partner. As you can imagine he is absolutely thrilled to be my guinea pig 🫤 What interview techniques work for you and what questions do you recommend? #MarketingLeaders #MarketingEdinburgh #Interviewtips

Remember, there's no universal 'right' or 'wrong' way to create content. It's about finding your unique approach. What there is is content that is well aligned and positioned to talk to your people and content that missed the mark. Instead of worrying about if you're doing it "right" or what could be "wrong," think about your messaging, your audience, and if there are practical, actionable takeaways for a reader. What does this look like in practice? 1️⃣ Share stories or insights similar to the way you would in a job interview! All those behavioral questions they ask that you spend hours prepping for, tell those stories but reframe them with a catchy hook... Think, "The worst mistake I ever made as a manager" or "Here's what I thought would get me fired!" 2️⃣ Compare and contrast changes people can implement and gain success from. Instead of "i started doing this and x happened" think, "when you do x, y will likely follow." 3️⃣ Pro and Con/Do and Don't/Old You -> New You Lists. No need to sit in the trenches with your readers; build credibility by talking about where you were or where they are, and then show them a way out. What steps did you take? What are the easy, simple, maybe overlooked habits that will build the dream you're chasing? Share those!

Mastering the art of the interview is crucial. Here’s how you can make a lasting impression and set yourself apart from the competition: ✅ Craft a Strong Opener: Start with a concise summary of your experience to make a memorable first impression. Example: "I’m a seasoned digital marketer with over 7 years of experience creating impactful campaigns that drive growth." ✅ Be Prepared: Have key anecdotes ready to showcase your achievements and handle any challenges positively. Example: "When leading a product launch, despite tight deadlines, my team and I exceeded our target by 30% through adaptive strategies and strong collaboration." ✅ Slow Down: Use techniques like note-taking to manage anxiety and maintain control over the conversation. Example: If faced with a tough question, say, "Let me take a moment to think about that," while jotting down key points for a thoughtful response. ✅ Breathe and Stay Comfortable: Set up a comfortable interview space and use relaxation techniques to stay calm. Example: Prepare a relaxing environment at home and practice deep breathing before your interview to boost confidence. Implement these strategies to boost your confidence and make your interviews more enjoyable. Good luck! #JobInterviewTips #CareerAdvice #Staffing #StaffHire

😁 Just a friendly reminder that no-showing for an interview has ZERO positive implications 😁 What no-showing does… ✔ harms your reputation and personal brand Leading to… 👎 losing out on opportunities and potentially getting blacklisted by some companies 📢 Word spreads fast and you never know who knows who. Ghosting/no-showing can have a ripple effect, negatively impacting your future job prospects
