Senior and Director-level roles in MarTech, Blockchain, Cyber Security and FinTech

What’s the recruiter’s main job when you hire an agency? To save your company time. In theory, given enough time, companies could fill roles internally. But in practice, recruitment is a demanding, full-time job that often makes engaging a specialist agency more cost-effective and efficient. However, when businesses create long Preferred Supplier Lists (PSLs) and measure success by sheer volume (number of CVs or interviews), they unintentionally encourage poor practices like “spray and pray” recruitment. This approach prioritizes quantity over quality and perpetuates industry-wide frustrations, including: ❌ Spammy outreach ❌ Irrelevant CV submissions ❌ Lack of feedback ❌ Poorly vetted and underprepared candidates ❌ Wasted time The Better Model? Top hiring companies typically work with just 1–2 carefully selected agencies. They: ✅ Provide these agencies with the information they need to succeed. ✅ Trust them to prioritize the role and focus on quality over quantity. ✅ Regularly assess their performance ✅ Rotate underperforming agencies out for vetted replacements. By reducing agency competition to the right partners, you get better service, save time, and improve the hiring process for all involved. We might just find that the industry as a whole begins to change for the better!

Mark Woods, recruiters need to prioritize quality over quantity, for real. Less chaos, more skill
