Building on CoStar Group reporting from last week which identified that #Chicago's recent #RetailRealEstate move-in's were mostly happening within community and neighborhood center properties. This week, it looks like the majority of new #Retail move-in's are entertainment and/or experiential-focused retailers. Furthering, as an example, there is chatter of an experiential #HarryPotter store which is currently negotiating for space on the #MagMile. This would be a welcomed attraction for a stretch of #CommercialRealEstate which as had vacancy rates reach as high as 33% in recent times. Experiential attractions, whether that is an arcade, mini-golf course, or something else, has been an effective method of increasing foot-traffic for retail assets, especially those which favor driving over walking. #CRE #Markets #Finance #RealEstate

I’ve wanted to read this book for years, and I finally did. I can’t recommend it enough. Will’s journey to transforming Eleven Madison Park into the world’s best restaurant is fascinating, and his method of pursuing that goal through Unreasonable Hospitality is priceless. Regardless of your industry, there’s immense value in learning how to be genuinely hospitable and make people feel comfortable and special while building authentic connections. With two stores (@replayguitars & @cuvee.wine), I believe retail could benefit from this knowledge more than any other industry. Retail professionals must understand that their field is also a form of hospitality, especially in the age of e-commerce and the decline of brick-and-mortar stores.
