Life is often about progression and connection. So despite your LinkedIn feed’s excitement, obsession, or fear of AI, it’s unclear what its net benefit to the creative industries will be. As a filmmaker, the greatest satisfaction has not been in the cinema watching the finished film. The real thrill is in the creation, in the teamwork, in the spirit of the story we are collaborating on. The journey is the point. The community is the point.
We'll continue to build our product and team, but our focus now shifts slightly: towards that community. Powerful stories make us feel, and discussing a maddening view, or eyebrow raising insight, is part of what what it is to be human. We want to facilitate that exchange of opinions. With AI making its mark, we'll soon hanker after much more than that which a computer can provide: true connection, real people, epic shared times.
Last month we held an event in Austin at SXSW (massive thanks to creative collaborators AJ and Weston) and we’re now planning for Cannes in May. Through facilitating audience discussion, screenings and filmmaker's stories, recdek can become more than just a digital platform.
