Endpoints News reports #biotech deals are on track to surpass 2023 as of Q3, thanks to robust AI-driven partnerships and steady venture funding totaling close to $21B. Q3 also saw 16 IPOs raise $3B—already topping last year’s $2.7B. But to exceed last year’s totals, Q4 will need a typical late-year spike in licensing and M&A activity. AI services alone contributed to 139 service deals this year, while M&A remains cautious with 28 deals worth $15.6B in Q3. A big thanks to Jordan Saxe ⛷️ for doing an exceptional job moderating the "Charting the Biotech IPO Frontier” panel at the #FierceBiotechSummit earlier this week. We had an all-star group of panelists, including Andrew W. Lam, PharmD, Troy Ignelzi, Alethia Young and Divakar Gupta. We discussed how the path to an IPO has evolved; it is now a much longer road that requires a lot of strategic groundwork. In today's environment, building strong relationships early is critical. It’s about finding the right partners - the bankers, lawyers, analysts and other advisors - who really understand your space and can help guide you through the intricacies of the process. Another key takeaway? The importance of storytelling. It’s not enough to have a good product—you need to communicate it simply and effectively, and build credibility over time. In the end, while an IPO is a major milestone, it’s just a starting point that opens the door to even greater opportunities. One of the greatest things about being an individual biotech investor is that you don't have to have insider access or special friends at Venture Capital funds In order to invest in embryonic, very early stage biotech firms. In today's public market, there are many fledgling biotech companies that are years away from having a viable product. There's even a few public companies that don't even have viable products in clinical testing yet. Just a few collection of good molecules and hopeful prayers. If you have a taste for risk and you want to get in on the latest innovations before they're even profitable, check out names that make up the exchange traded fund XBI. You'll save a bundle on fees, enjoy more liquidity and more transparency than investing in a VC fund but the effect will basically be the same.
