This evening, I announced my plan to retire from The Campbell's Company’s at the end of January and transition with the incoming CEO over the next two months. I'd like to congratulate Mick Beekhuizen on becoming the 15th CEO in Campbell’s 155-year history. One of the most significant responsibilities a leader has is to plan for their eventual departure and have great leaders ready to step up and maintain the momentum in the organization. Mick will be fantastic in doing that and more. These last six years at Campbell’s have been an incredible privilege and honor, as well as the most rewarding professional experience in my nearly 30 years of working in the food industry. Without question what made it so special is the entire Campbell’s team. Seeing their passion and commitment every day was a great source of inspiration through what proved to be an incredible journey. Campbell’s has the top leadership team in the business. They are experienced, engaged and fully committed to setting the standard for performance. Together, we have built one of the best portfolios in all of food and transformed the company. The strength of the culture and the business enabled me to make this tough decision with the utmost confidence in the company’s trajectory going forward. Leaving Campbell’s was not an easy choice. Since I was a boy, sports have played an important part of my life, and the idea of working in the world of sports—and in particular the NFL—has been a lifelong goal. It is truly a once in a lifetime moment to become the Team President of the Washington Commanders. I’d like to thank Josh Harris and the Washington Commanders ownership group for this amazing opportunity. I’m excited to join Adam Peters, Dan Quinn and all my Commanders teammates in building a winning culture, providing the best fan experience in the NFL, and making a meaningful impact in the community, with the ultimate goal of bringing another Super Bowl to the fans across the DMV. Raise Hail!
Hello Mark as a life long Redskins Fan can you please just bring back the proper name. If you grew up in DC area you would understand. The single most beautiful helmet in the NFL. The long proud history of a Native American hero of our Revolutionary war. Can we take back what politicaly correct lies has taken from this great teams history. You have know idea how many have turned off the NFL since all these initiatives to strip its name and yes let's win again and add another Redskins Superbowl ring! Please sir so many Native Americans are fans of its original name and will be proud to have the rivalry back with the Cowboys as it should be.
Congrats. Looking very forward to seeing Dan Snyder's Commies branding rectified with a new name and logo that connect to the heritage of this franchise we love so dearly. For the past several years, many of us have not been able to invest any time or money given how disconnected we feel from a brand we abhor as much as the person that created it. Though the vast majority of the now ex-fan base has been out the past few years, we sincerely hope we get a name/brand correction that makes this team feel like ours again. Warriors, Braves, Redwolves, Potomacs... any of these would suffice.
Dang! I guess I didn’t get the job! What a way to find out! Congrats to you sir and the franchise is headed in the right direction and nothing but good things ahead.
Love Campbell's Soup! Love the "REDSKINS" aka COMMANDERS (really feel the name could come back!... please survey & get the approval of the Native Indian Nations. The Chiefs kept their name! The Redskins are iconic. Bring back the good karma). LETS GOOOOOOO!!!!! 🪶🪽🦾🏈🇺🇸
Sure, running a football team has to be just like making soup. Or am I missing something here?
Congratulations. For what it's worth... I was a fan of the Redskins name/branding and wished they'd done an homage to that heritage. I'd love to rebrand the Commanders to the Redtails (honoring the black pilots who flew in combat during WWII) or Redhawks -- working with the Redhawk Tribe and paying them to use the name -- honoring their warrior tradition. But alas, the opportunity for all that has probably sailed.
As just an ordinary fan of the Redskins/Commanders (since the Eddie LeBaron days of the late 1950s) let me add my congratulations on your new position. I'm sure that since you worked in a "product oriented" world you are as aware as anyone that handling any major sports franchise means you are selling/handling a "product", albeit one with VERY picky fans/followers! You know how fickle (not to mention downright snotty) fans can be when the "product" doesn't meet the "users'" expectations, but I also have confidence that your experience has taught you how to turn that around. My fervent hope is that you will be able to establish the kind of relationship with the franchise owner(s) and senior staff that will make "almost" every season a "this could be our (newest) championship" year. That's a tall order for any new CEO but based on your background I have every confidence that if anyone can do it, you can. Best of luck!
Mark, I was one of the first kids to sing the Campbell's Soup jingle over 60 years ago. You know... "M-m, m-m good." Well, now I'm a rabid Commanders fan and that's exactly what I think of Josh hiring you. It's "M-m, m-m GOOD!" What great fortune for all! Craig Sechler
I hope the next chapter in your career is Mmm Mmm Good, just not better than the Eagles!

2wCongrats Mark! I know some people might wonder why the CEO of a food company would make this move to the NFL. Why would he want this and why would they want him? It is because Mark Clouse is more than just a typical business exec. At his core he is a winner--and he knows how to lead winning teams. My first marketing job after my MBA was at Kraft Foods and Mark was the first team leader I ever worked for closely and personally. Weird as it might sound... he built our Kraft Singles team into a group that cared about excellence, cared about each other, and most of all cared about winning. If he can do that for individually wrapped process cheese slices--just think what he can do for an NFL team. Predicting an NFL championship in the next five years with Mark Clouse at the helm!
